One of my goals this year is to walk 10,000 steps a day. As much as I love my Allbirds, they were just not cutting it for this amount of steps on a daily basis. I wore my Allbirds Tree Flyer 2s every day (rotating 3 pairs) and I think this was also part of the reason why they weren't great for my feet. It lead to calluses and overall foot pain when I walked long distances. This year I purchased 5 different sneakers to try, with the goal of being able to walk 15,000 steps comfortably. Not that I am walking 15,000 steps every single day, but sometimes I do and I wanted to make sure I could do so with my new shoes. Now that I've had these shoes for a while, here is how I would rank them from the best pair to my least favorite shoe.
For reference I typically wear size 5.5 in Allbirds and this is my normal street shoe size. I also linked my full review for each shoe.
Much to my surprise, Lululemon's Beyondfeel Running Shoe is hands down my favorite pair to walk 15K steps. They're also great for jogging and running. They feel so comfortable with lots of cushioning and they're super responsive. This is hands down the best all around shoe for me. They're so good, I just bought my second pair in Black/Luxe Gold colorway. 😍

The On Cloudmonster Void comes in at a very close second. These are very comfortable in width. I find these are great for long walks and runs. I can hit 15K steps easily with zero issues. However because of the 6mm heel drop, they take some time getting used to with walking downhill. Especially if it's a steep downhill, it feels like you're on your tippy toes. That said, they're currently on sale and so worth it! Jared needs a new pair of shoes and I am trying to convince him to get a pair of these. He says he won't wear Lululemon shoes 😆.

I really love Allbirds, but lately as you know they're not great for walking long distances everyday. The Tree Dasher 2 - Utility comes in at number 3. These are fine for casual walking, but no more than 10K steps. These have a nice amount of cushion and I would even say they're a little bouncy. But if you're a more serious walker, I would try Lululemon's Beyondfeel or On Cloudmonster Void. If you really like how these look and want to give them a try I would suggest sizing up.

This pair of Brooks is the most neutral shoe out of all 5 pairs I've tried. They're great for up to 10K steps, more than that I would want either On Cloudmonster Void or Lululemon's Beyondfeel. However I know there are some people who do not like a lot of cushion in their shoes and prefer a neutral feel. If so, these are the ones for you. Honestly, I do like these shoes, but I find them a little boring to wear. 😅
This pair of Hoka came in last. I reach for these the least. I'm not a fan of the huge logo on the side of the shoe, which is why I went with white on white. It was the least in-your-face with the branding. As for walking, they're fine for 10K steps, but they're nothing special. I know they're very popular and I see a lot of people wearing Hoka. I think On and Hoka are the most popular shoe brand at the moment. If I were to choose, I'm going to say On is the better brand of course. 😄
Black/Luxe Gold Size 5.5
Super excited to add a second pair of these to my rotation. However, I will say switching different brands and styles is very important to keeping my feet happy. And if anyone is curious my average daily step count so far this year is 11,256. I am right on track. It was challenging getting my steps during the hot summer heat. I prefer walking outside if I can. I save the running and jogging for the treadmill. With two more months to go, I think I'll finish the year with close to 11,500 steps a day.
What is your favorite walking shoe? Let me know in the comments! That's it for me. Hope you all have a marvelous Monday! If you have 4 minutes to spare, here's my latest unboxing video. What's special about this bag is it's an early Christmas present from Jared! 😍

I was experiencing some foot pain, and was recommended shoes that came in wide, and Hoka came in this size and I wanted to try it. I always hated the branding and the thick sole, but gave it a try. It feels really bouncy but doesn’t squish my toes together which is nice. The next recommendation is Altras which is next on my list.
ReplyDeleteHi AC! Agree, I wish their branding wasn't so big. I might like them more. I have noticed that as I get older I need a wider shoe too! I guess things are just settling lol. I haven't heard of Altras. Will have to check them out!
DeleteI'm so happy you like the Beyondfeels! They are still my favorite for wearing when I'll be on my feet for a few hours + running. I recently got the Split Shifts and like them, too. They are a rocker shoe, so they took some getting used to for me. I also got the Chargefeel 3 at the same time and don't like them. They seem hard, and the shape of them makes me trip.
ReplyDeleteHi LZ! I really want to try the Split Shift shoe. Did not realize it was called a rocker. I think that's what my On Cloud Monster Voids feel like. It did take some time but I really love those too, so maybe I'll give those a try next! Agree, wasn't a fan of the Chargefeel 3. I returned those.
