Bedroom Renovation! Before and After Photos

Happy Friday! This has been the busiest week I've ever had in a long long time. So glad it's the weekend. I have a lot of items that just arrived that I need to take photos of. Check back on Monday for a Lululemon fit review on the Nulu Fold Tank Tops

The past month or so I've been talking about renovating our bedroom. It was a long time coming. We've been talking about doing it for probably the last 2 years. I was tired of sleeping on a full size bed with four cats and my husband who likes to sleep with a weighted blanket. It felt like sleeping in a coffin, seriously. I literally couldn't move around with the weighted blanket on one side and my cats all on the other side of me. 😫 I told my husband, we NEED to upgrade to a king size bed.

This is what we had to work with when we moved in 5 years ago. The carpet was a disaster and the windows needed to be replaced. We got new carpet and windows soon after we moved in. For the next 5 years this was our set up. The bed frame was from West Elm and the nightstands were from Target. The Anthropologie lamp came with me from New York. I love that lamp.

We eventually added these Besta's from IKEA for more storage.

This wasn't bad when we only had one cat, but four cats later, it became too small.

The first thing we did was rip up all the carpet and painted the walls. Ripping up the carpet took half a day and it was a pain in the butt because we had to cut up the carpet into smaller pieces so we could haul them out in trash bags. Our bedroom is pretty small, it's about 12 feet by 13 feet. Originally I wanted to paint the walls a pretty mauve and a darker shade for the accent wall, but in the end I decided I wanted to go with something more neutral because of the bed frame I had in mind.

We gave the baseboards a fresh coat and also painted the ceiling white, it was looking a little yellow.

Hubby installed new flooring himself. A lot of YouTube videos were involved. Not bad eh? I know a lot of people say you should remove the baseboards and install new ones, but we decided to go with quarter rounds to save some time, but we needed to learn how to cope corners. We both did a couple of corners each, teamwork!

I think that looks pretty good!

We changed the vent on the ceiling to something a little more modern. We left the window shades alone, those are from IKEA. It was finally starting to come together. That accent wall is amazing. I loved taking photos against that wall. The kits got their first look at the new room. They were so cute walking in and sniffing everything, quite unsure what to make of it because there wasn't any furniture!

Simi, Flash, Ash, Neko.

Originally, we were going to put the bed frame up against the accent wall, but we realized our room was too small and the bed had to go against the windows. We ordered the rug from Overstock. I wanted a cream colored rug with a geometric design to brighten up the room a little bit. We didn't want to spend too much on the rug since the bed was going on top of it. However, it does shed quite a bit.

We ordered the bed frame from Crate and Barrel. We had the hardest time choosing the bedframe and headboard because of our many requirements. We wanted a platform bed frame that went all the way down to the ground so our cats couldn't hide underneath it. We also did not want a fabric base because of Simi. She would use it as her own personal cat scratcher. It would end up shredded in six months. I wanted something soft for the headboard and I wanted the height to be similar to the one we had. We ended up agreeing on the Flange King Headboard with Batten Plinth Base in Van Gogh Dove. The only problem is the headboard won't be ready until July!!! 😩

We ordered these fabulous Helsing Bookcases as our nightstands. Since our bedroom is on the small side and we had to give up our Bestas, we were looking for something that would give us more storage and double up as nightstands and these worked out amazingly well. I wasn't sure from the website if I would like them in person, but now I am totally in love with these bookcases. Crate and Barrel delivered everything on the same day and even put our bed frame together. My husband picked the Helsing bookcases. He has a good eye.

I will link all the bedding at the bottom of the post for those who may be interested. If the set up reminds you of a hotel, that is exactly the look we were going for. The one thing we really missed in 2020 was traveling. It's just so relaxing and peaceful whenever I stayed at a nice hotel and this was something we wanted to re-create.

I'm in love with Parachute bedding

If you're thinking the headboard will block some of the window, you are correct, but that's okay. We do not open up the windows anyway because of the traffic pollution. It will be a little tricky getting the shades up and down, but we'll figure it out. As for window cleaning, we'll move the bed once a year to do so. 😅

In the other corner I have a small reading nook. There's my Anthropologie lamp! The table and chair are both from IKEA. This display case will hold my pottery collection and my beloved furbabies. RIP Crunchy, Nero and Sherlock. I am still not quite finished setting up my display case which is also IKEA.

By the way, I love the Container Store. They partnered with Marie Kondo with a new collection! I love it and will be back for more. I'm such a sucker for nice storage bins. Our budget for this bedroom reno was $5000, but I think we ended up hitting $6000. We tried to save some money doing all of this ourselves. The next project might be the closet. I would love to redo our closet with new a new Pax wardrobe. Maybe next year?

That's it for me! Let me know what you think. I hope you all have a fantastic weekend!

  4. Wow! I love how everything comes together! The cream coloured rug brightens the room and gives it a cozy feeling. The bookcases coordinate well with your accent chair and provides practical storage space. The accent wall is bold and adds character to the neutral tones of the room. It's really impressive that you did all this work by yourselves! I look forward to seeing the final look when the headboard arrives! Have a great weekend!

We tried HelloFresh for the past two months - Here's our review

Hi everyone! This post is written by my husband. Some of you may know he does all the cooking around here. 😅 We noticed we were spending a lot of money on food and eating out every month and wanted to see if a meal kit service would save us money and time. After looking at a few meal kit services we settled on HelloFresh. Without further ado, here's Jared's review. (Original post date Aug 2022). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ As you may have seen from Leslie's Instagram stories for the past 2 months, we've been using HelloFresh for most of our meals. The main drivers for this were to better track what we eat and because on the advice of my doctor, I should be eating more home cooked meals. Before I go any further, it should be noted that my original career path was in culinary arts, but twists and turns in life changed that. So I do have formal cooking experience. A little background story. Over the years, I've developed
