Happy Friday! I am obsessed with this leather jacket I recently bought from Banana Republic. Back when I lived in New York, I used to love wearing leather jackets in the fall. There's just something about wearing a nice leather jacket that instantly elevates your outfit. When I moved to Atlanta in 2017, I sold them all off, mainly because I thought at the time "leather weather" in Atlanta was too short of a window to justify keeping them. Fast forward 8 years later, I now know the perfect leather jacket season in Atlanta really does exist. The trick is to buy a leather jacket that's roomy enough to wear a cashmere cardigan underneath it and you can easily wear it as a fall/winter jacket.
For reference I'm 4 feet 11 inches tall and typically wear size Petite XS in Banana Republic and Athleta. I also wear size 4/6 or XS/S in Lululemon.
Back to this gorgeous Banana Republic flight jacket. I saw it at the store and instantly grabbed it to try on. They only had size XS in stock. This does come in XXS, which I think would have also worked if you wanted it to be more fitted, but the XS is perfect for me. It looks casual but still very cool in the slightly oversized fit. The sleeves are actually not too long and I love that I can push up the sleeves for a different look. The leather is amazingly soft and supple and it already has the distressed worn-in look that I love so much.
The shearling collar is removable, but I honestly love it. It keeps my neck warm and I don't feel the need for a scarf. The pockets are very roomy and easy access. For closure this jacket offers a zipper and snaps. Unfortunately the jacket has been sold out online for months. I was really lucky to find one at the store. For $698, it is steep for a jacket, but I think this particular style is classic and I will be wearing it for years! I don't think there's one thing I don't like about this jacket. Banana Republic has really stepped up the past couple of years and I am loving their Heritage pieces and classic styles that they were known for back in the 90s and 2000s.
I scoured the internet to find similar jackets, but I really feel like Banana Republic is the best one. The Coach leather jacket I linked to below is super close, but it doesn't have the distressed leather. Unless of course you're not a fan of distressed leather, then it might be for you! Let me know what you think. Do you have a favorite fall/winter leather jacket? That's it for me, have a great weekend!

(This one is pretty close! It's just not distressed. 50% off too.)

Thanks for doing a review on it, it’s gorgeous! The other ones just aren’t the same, the distressed leather makes it chefs kiss
ReplyDeleteHi AC! I agree 100% the BR one is really the best!!
DeleteThat jacket looks so good on you! I really like the distressing too - it works on the bomber style. I have a favorite leather jacket, but I definitely couldn't wear it in winter - it's a moto-style and there is no room to layer. I was so excited when I found it; the sleeves are the perfect length lol! I've been rocking that jacket for YEARS. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Lola! Thank you so much! I had those moto style leather jackets when I lived in NY. Definitely couldn't layer much underneath those. They were like leather fitted armor. LOL. I do miss the one I had sometimes but I'm so happy to have the BR jacket as a replacement!
DeleteThe jacket looks so cute on you, Leslie, and I also love the distressed worn-in look!
ReplyDeleteI used to love wearing leather jackets when I was young but gave all of them to a neighbour’s daughter a couple decades ago. I guess when you get older you appreciate lighter clothings lol.
Andrea
Hi Andrea! I totally understand. I am hoping I can still wear the leather jacket comfortably for a while longer before I have to give them up. =)
DeleteThank you for the review! At this price point it’s nice to see some authentic reviews and photos prior to buying! Could you please provide the across chest measurement and length of jacket for xs? Contemplating between xxs and xs. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteHi there, it's very oversized, so the chest measurement going across is 22 inches.
DeleteI appreciate you getting back to me- I think I’ll check out the xxs! Thank you for your guidance and have a Happy start to 2026!
DeleteHappy New Year! I hope the XXS works out!
