The Fendi Spy Bag is Back!! Hologram Fortuny Spy Review

For those who don't know, the Fendi Spy bag was first released in 2005. For it's 20th anniversary Fendi is bringing it back, with some changes. The Fendi Spy was known for its secret compartments which certain celebrities back in the day used it for hiding illegal recreational substances. The updated version seems to be lacking the handle and replaced it with two long leather tassels which I have mixed feelings about. The handle was the best secret compartment. It didn't fit all that much but it was still pretty cool.

From the 2025 Runway the Spy is Back!

Here's a story for you. I actually bought the Hologram/Fortuny Spy back in 2006. It cost $2400 back then which was A LOT of money for the time. Most premier designer bags cost around $1500, like the Chloe Paddington and the Dior Gaucho. I had both of those bags, of course. 😂 I still have a Paddington bag, but I sold the Gaucho a long, long time ago.

When I saw Mary Kate carrying the Hologram Spy bag, I was obsessed!
😍😍😍

Anyhow, I sold the Hologram Spy because it was so stiff out of the box. It was very big and not squishy, which you all know I love a squishy bag. I didn't have the patience in breaking the bag in as I preferred my Balenciaga bags back then. So, I eventually sold it. A couple of years ago, I decided I really missed the bag and found one on eBay for about $450 or so in very good condition. When it arrived, it was already broken and the bag is now soft!

For reference I'm 4 feet 11 inches tall.

This was baby me back in 2006 with the bag. I bought it for my 25th birthday. You can tell it's brand new because there isn't much of the turquoise showing. It's also stuffed so it looks even bigger. And yes, that is my furbaby Crunchy. RIP. I still miss her so much and she passed away in 2014. Cruncher! She was the best dog. My little shadow.

Fendi Hologram Spy

See? Pre-owned can be better. Most of my bags are pre-owned. I would say about 90 percent of my bags were purchased second hand. It's better for the planet and for your wallet. I can guarantee you the new 2025 Spy bag will cost $3000-$4000 or more depending on the material used.

This bag can be carried three ways, by the top handle, on the crook of the arm or over the shoulder. Back in 2006, crossbody bags weren't really in. It wasn't until my 30s that I started wearing crossbody bags.

This is a big bag. Definitely a statement piece. Especially with the metallic bronze color and the turquoise glow just makes it so beautiful to me. It's a piece of art.

I'm the type of person that prefers to have the bag make the outfit instead of the other way around. For me, it's always going to be about the bag. Did I ever tell you the story where I was shopping at Barneys in New York and I spotted a lady wearing a Balenciaga bag on her arm. When I gave her a closer look, it was actually Beyoncé with Jay Z! 😆

A couple more photos out in the wild.

Let's take a look a closer look at the details of this bag.

This bag is just so beautiful to me. Let's talk about the turquoise glow. What's unique about this Spy bag is the leather. Those are very very thin laser cut strips of leather. One side is metallic bronze, the other is turquoise. The more you use the bag, the more the turquoise will show. This is one of those rare cases where a bag looks better the more you wear it. I don't think there are many bags out there that look more beautiful with age.

I called these beautiful braided leather handles, dragon handles. The attention to detail on this bag is amazing. I just cannot get over the beautiful turquoise glow, even 20 years later. I've never seen anything like it.

Back of the bag.

Now for the secret compartments. This is the first compartment. It opens up to the size of a coin purse. It fit the Motorola Razr phone perfectly. The second compartment is hidden inside the leather handle. It can fit a lighter and very small thin items.

The main compartment of the bag is huge. It can actually fit my 14 inch MacBook, which amazes me. I would never carry my laptop in this bag, because it would be too heavy, but if you wanted to, you could. If you want to see what else fits inside this bag, please check out my video.

I am soooo happy to see the resurgence of 2005 It bags. It started with Balenciaga bringing back the City, now Fendi with the Spy bag and Chloe with the Paddington bag. The Chloe Paddington may be my next bag review. Stay tuned.

That's it for me! Hope you all enjoyed this trip down memory lane. Hope you all have a wonderful start to another brand new week.

  3. Oh so they got the leather to mimic copper? That’s ingenious! I wonder what that guy who rips up bags on YouTube would feel about this finish, though it would be sad to see it dissected for that purpose 😅

    1. Hi AC! Wow I never thought about it but yes, it is similar to copper!
Do you mean Tanner Leatherstein? Love that guy. I would like to know his thoughts too on a bag like this. I doubt he's ever seen anything like it with this hardware. There are some fairly beat up ones on ebay that he could dissect, I wouldn't rip up one in good condition lol.

  4. Love the way the light hits the bag and the turquoise shines through. Also awesome to see pics of younger "you", still look the same except with shorter hair. You may have to share your skin care routine or do some skin care product reviews, haha.. jk, sorta.

Review! Coach Soft Empire Carryall 40 Merlot

I am super excited about this review! This has been the most anticipated Coach bag since The Rogue came out. At least for me. When I first saw this bag on the purseblog , my eyes widened and I was immediately obsessed. The Soft Empire Carryall comes in four sizes. Size 48 is ridiculously big, I cannot pull it off, but the 40? Perfect. Size 35 and 26 just doesn't give off the same wow factor. This bag is meant to be a statement piece and head turner. Kudos to Stewart Vevers for creating another hit that everyone will be obsessing over for a long time. I hear that more colors will be released soon, and I am hoping the distressed lived-in version will not be exclusive to size 48. In case it doesn't happen, I'll be using my Empire 40 as much as I can to give it a distressed look myself.  For reference I'm 4 feet 11 inches tall and please check out my video to see what fits! Coach Empire 40 Merlot This bag is huge, it's definitely the biggest bag in my collection. ...

Review! Balenciaga Rodeo Bag Size Small Plus Video

You all know I love my bags, and as a Balenciaga collector, I don't often stray from the City and First style. The Rodeo (pronounced like Rodeo Drive) really caught my eye. It gives off a slouchy Hermes Kelly vibe, but way more practical to use.  For reference I'm 4 feet 11 inches tall. Balenciaga Rodeo Bag Small The Rodeo can be carried a few ways. It comes with a crossbody strap that is not adjustable but it is removable. Not sure why anyone wouldn't add a few extra holes to make a strap adjustable these days. Come on Balenciaga! Do better! The top handle is a bit too long for this to work anyhow, I feel like the top handle gets in the way. It sticks out and doesn't sit well in my opinion. I wouldn't carry this bag crossbody unless it was an unforeseen emergency and I really needed my hands free. This bag looks more chic carried by the handle or crook of the arm. It also looks nice left open with the help of the flap tucked in. The Rodeo resembles the Kelly bag ...

Happy Friday! I can't believe it's almost Halloween! I actually have a dentist appointment on Halloween. One of my molars chipped and needs to be filled in. It's a tiny chip that I didn't even notice until my dentist pointed it out to me during my last visit. I'm not looking forward to it at all since I will need local anesthesia. Anyway, today I have a belt bag size comparison review for you all! For reference I'm 4 feet 11 inches tall and typically wear size 4 in Lululemon tops and bottoms.
