Review! Polène Numéro Dix in Smooth Cognac

Happy Friday! I'm super excited to share with you this Polène bag Numéro Dix in Smooth Cognac. This was a Christmas present from my husband. I actually prefer not to receive handbags as gifts from Jared because he makes me promise to never sell them! But I have been eyeing this purse for a long time, I just couldn't decide on the color. It was a toss up between the Smooth Cognac or the sueded croc in Polar blue.

For reference I'm 4 feet 11 inches tall.

This bag is so beautiful. It comes with two straps and can be worn in many ways. Carrying it crossbody is my favorite way to wear this bag. I love being hands free. The Numéro Dix comes with two straps. The shorter strap allows you to carry it shoulder style like a baguette or pochette. The straps are adjustable on both sides. I prefer to use the longer strap and adjusted the length to my liking. The straps look slightly uneven in length, but this is where I prefer the bag to rest at my hip.

The leather on this bag is beautiful. It's so smooth and the color is a rich brown with red undertones. The contrast stitching is perfect all the way throughout the bag and gives it a luxurious look. The attention to detail in the craftmanship is excellent. The logo is small and discreet at the top of the bag. The letters are gold stamped.

Due to the nature of the leather, it will show marks and scratches quite easily. If these imperfections bother you, I would advise to stick with the textured leather instead. This bag comes in 17 different colors. I prefer a natural leather because I'm a very tactile person and love the feel of smooth leather beneath my fingertips. That said, I have noticed one mark already since I started carrying it. I consider scratches and marks part of the bag's life journey and it will give the bag character the more it's used.

The zipper runs smoothly all the way across the opening. The opening of the bag is on the smaller side. It measures roughtly seven inches across. The inside is lined with microsuede and feels soft and lush. The bag has a single slip pocket on the inside.

Designed in Paris, made in Spain.

The half moon shape is currently trending, and the Dix is also considered a saddle bag which is classic and timeless. The bag has a very modern and minimalistic look.

The bag, despite its half moon shape fits quite a bit. Your everyday essentials should fit with a little bit of room to spare. Although, if you have a traditional wallet, that may be trickier. The best thing I ever did was to get rid of my full sized wallet and replaced it with a card case.

I should add that items tend to fall in the middle of the bag due to the rounded base. Because of this, I try to place the larger items in the center and the smaller items around the side. I managed to fit everything I carry with room to spare.

Polène's minimalistic style also transfers to their packaging. The bag comes in a light gray cardboard box with the logo imprinted. It's almost hard to see the logo as it is the same color as the box. It comes with two straps, dust bag, and a care card. The bag itself is completely wrapped in bubble wrap to protect the leather from damage during shipment.

Shipping is super fast with DHL. It took three days to arrive. Polène unfortunately just increased their prices across all their bags. This bag was $500 and now costs $650. Many of their customers are complaining about the huge increase on Instagram. While materials and workmanship have gone up, many including myself do not agree that it justifies a 30% jump for some bags. I would be hard pressed to pay more than $750 for one of their bags, but I suppose we'll see if the future proves me wrong! That said, I would still consider this brand to be affordable luxury. Their prices are similar to other contemporary brands like Coach.

That's it for me! Please check out my video. I think it's my best one so far! Hope you all have a fantastic weekend. 😊

    2. Hi Cindy! Yes the smooth leathers are $650. The textured leathers are $580 and the croc suede is also $580. The canvas is also $580. I'm debating on getting the croc suede next. But it's a very seasonal bag and probably wouldn't wear it for 6 months out of the year.

  3. Didn't Polene have a major price increase recently - a year or so ago? Disappointing that they are raising prices so much as they get to be better known.

Also I love your star sweater - where is it from?

    1. Yes Polène seems to be raising their prices every January. They did the same thing last year.

Thank you so much! I just added the sweater link to my blog post. It's my new favorite cashmere sweater. I'm actually wearing it right now! =) I do have a review coming.

  5. That bag is gorgeous! Your review video was great! The bag holds quite a lot of stuff for looking so sleek. I would love to get one for myself, but I'm daunted by the price hike. With conversion to CAD, they're pretty pricey.

    1. Hi Lola! Thank you so much! I'm so disappointed with the price hike, I can't even begin to talk about it. It seems like all these brands are doing it at least once a year now. SMH. This one is a huge jump and I don't agree with it at all. It's wait and see if their customer base follows or jumps ship.

  6. I got this in the textured tan color in Paris last year. So thankful for the VAT refund. Doubt I would buy any other bag from them at these prices. I will say that I LOVE this bag and use it often though, cost per wear must be under $10 a day for me.

    1. That's amazing! I really do love the bag and it depends on how often you reach for it. For me it's a keeper no matter what since it's a gift from my DH. That said I've already worn it 6 times. I just keep petting the leather when it's in my lap!

  7. hi Leslie! I love the shape and size of this bag! The smooth leather looks luxurious and I love your colour choice! It's too bad that they don't have stores in Canada, or I'd love to check it out. Thank you for the great review!

We tried HelloFresh for the past two months - Here's our review

Hi everyone! This post is written by my husband. Some of you may know he does all the cooking around here. 😅 We noticed we were spending a lot of money on food and eating out every month and wanted to see if a meal kit service would save us money and time. After looking at a few meal kit services we settled on HelloFresh. Without further ado, here's Jared's review. (Original post date Aug 2022). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ As you may have seen from Leslie's Instagram stories for the past 2 months, we've been using HelloFresh for most of our meals. The main drivers for this were to better track what we eat and because on the advice of my doctor, I should be eating more home cooked meals. Before I go any further, it should be noted that my original career path was in culinary arts, but twists and turns in life changed that. So I do have formal cooking experience. A little background story. Over the years, I've developed
