Fit Review Friday! Veja Campo and Veja Kids Small Esplar Laces Big Kid Plus WMTM Update!

Happy Friday! Today we have a fit request for Veja sneakers. This is a comparison review of kid versus adult sizing. For reference I wear size 5.5 in Allbirds. Veja shoes come in european sizing and I fit size 35.

Top- Veja Campo Camel/White Size 35 (US Women's 4)
Bottom - Veja Kids Small Espar Laces White/Orange Size 35 (US 4 Big Kid)

There weren't many kids shoes available in size 35 to choose from, so I picked one that was as similar as I could find to the adult shoe I liked. For some background, I did wear Pumas for a short period of time, but I never liked Converse sneakers, I found them a little too hard on my feet. The feel of Veja sneakers reminds me of Pumas in terms of quality, but they feel a little too hard in the sole, similar to Converse but with more cushion. The midsole is much thicker on the adult shoe which also makes it heavier. The kids shoe also has a reinforced sole.

Left - Veja Kids Small Espar Laces White/Orange Size 35 (US 4 Big Kid)
Right- Veja Campo Camel/White Size 35 (US Women's 4)

Visually, I prefer the look of the kids shoe because the adult shoe looks a little too busy. The Campo looks too crowded with not enough spacing in the toe cap. I do like how there's a little bit more attention to detail like the contrast collar padding in the Campo. The suede looks very lush and feels high quality. The stich quality looks about the same on both shoes.

Right - Veja Kids Small Espar Laces White/Orange Size 35 (US 4 Big Kid)

Fit- The kid size 35 feels a little small length wise. My toes hit the front of the shoe. The width feels fine. When I walk, the back of the shoe slips slightly. The sole feels cushioned and comfortable, but not springy. The sole does not have much flexibility, which is common with this style.

Veja Campo Camel/White Size 35 (US Women's 4)

Fit- Adult size 35 feels a little larger than kids size 35. My toe does not hit the front of the shoe. Width feels about the same, maybe a smidge more narrow. The back of the shoe slips even more since they are heavier. The shoe is fairly comfortable but they feel stiff and the sole is not flexible (similar to the kid shoe).

If you like Converse, Vans, and Pumas, you may like the feel of Veja sneakers. It's been a while since I bought a pair of Pumas, but these remind me of Puma sneakers the most.

Price- The difference between the adult and kids shoe is $45. It's not a big difference, so if you are interested in trying Veja shoes and you're in a similar situation where you can fit both kids and adult sizing, I would say order both to try on. The kids shoe was a little too small for me, so I would have kept the adult size if I liked the style, but I'm too loyal to my Allbirds! Allbirds are still by far the most comfortable shoes for me. I ended up returning both pairs, but I am glad I tried them.

WMTM Update

There was a pretty good update earlier this week, but in case you missed it I can't believe Night Sea is already on mark down! Also my Wunder Puff vest is now $129 was $179 when I bought it. I'm trying to stay strong on my no-buy challenge for this month, but these mark downs are tempting. How is everyone doing on their challenge?

(Ugh, hopefully this is still available in 12 days.)

(I have this in Riverstone and love it, wouldn't mind adding black to my wardrobe.)

That's it for me! Hope you all have a wonderful weekend. Stay warm. 😊

  1. Hi Leslie, there are so many items went to WMTM. I am tempted by the Velvet Cord Crop. Did you end up getting size 4 or 6? I may pull the trigger.

    1. I went with the size 6 but it is a little loose on me. If you like things more fitted go with your usual size.

  2. I was trying to do a no buy/low buy this month, but I fell off the wagon hard with this week's markdowns. A couple of the things I've had my eye on went on markdown, so I snapped them up. I did have a gift card from Christmas to spend, so it wasn't all out of pocket :) I ended up ordering the Full Flourish Pullover and the Quilted Bomber Jacket. I took a chance and sized down on the jacket, so I hope that was a good call!

I see there are some new Alicia Keys items on Athleta, and they're offering petite sizing this time! The body suit and the Retroplush pants are on my wish list!

    1. Hi Lola! I hear you, I'm trying really hard not to pick up another pair of the Velvet Cord Cropped Pant. I wore the Riverstone to the office and love how soft and comfy they are. I have a gift card too, so I wonder if I should get it.... hmmm....

I saw the Alicia Keys items last night! Was going to add it to this post, but will save it for another post. Maybe I'll do a special post. I am looking at the Retroplush Pant and Sweatshirt in Dark Cherrywood. Very pleased with the petite offerings!

The bodysuit is very pretty. Love the look of it in Dark Cherrywood. Wonder if I can hold off from purchasing. Worried that since it's a special collab, things will start to sell out.

    2. I don't think Athleta is stocking much in the petite sizes. Things are selling out way too quickly on the Canadian site. The Keys items I added to cart already say "only a few left" . I will hold off from purchasing though. Athleta has so many good sales that I hate to pay regular price for anything. The bodysuit alone is over $200!

    3. I just looked and you're right, the Retroplush Sweatshirt says only a few left in XXS. I tried looking for a 20% off coupon but couldn't find any that worked. I have some rewards I can use but I don't like to use them until I'm 100% sure it's a keeper for me. Sigh, what to do, what to do...

    4. I looked at all the Keys stuff, and EVERY petite size in every style is almost sold out. They're definitely not stocking much in petites, which kind of pisses me off. I say hold strong; you only have 11 more days to go! Or....you could order the sweatshirt with the intent of just checking it out then sending it back until there's a sale? I will probably miss out on the sweatpants, but I'm determined to wait for a discount code!

    5. Wow, that's crazy. I hope next time they make more quantities in petite. I am going to try and wait it out. 11 days isn't that long, right? =T Same, if I had a discount code, I might be more tempted to check out.

  3. I got a Wunder Puff vest in roasted brown and I love it so much! Sorry I haven't been commenting. My laptop was dead for a few weeks and I couldn't comment on my phone (somehow it glitches and clears the comment when I post). Happy belated New Years! :) I've still been reading your posts.

    1. Hi Janessa! NIce! I love my WP vest too. It's okay, I get it- no worries at all. I'm happy to see you're still around. =)

  4. Hi Leslie. Thank you so much for doing the fit review. First off, I’d like to say that because you're comparing 2 different styles the fit and toe box etc maybe different due to that reason rather than it being adult vs kids sizing. Veja was having a good sale after I requested the fit review so I bit the bullet and ordered a pair of adult campos in size 35. My first impression was I thought the shape of the shoe from a birds eye view was a bit wide at the top of the shoe. The profile looked nice though. It was a little too big lengthwise but I expected that as I’m not a true size 5. The campo has a thicker sole and higher profile than the esplar (which would have been my first choice but it wasn’t on sale). Comfort wise everyone blogger who has reviewed them seems to agree it has a stiff bottom. I’m not a fan of that as I like my shoes to conform and mold to my feet. But for the sake of fashion and saving the trouble of returning them I decided to keep them and give them a chance to break in. I wore them around the house for a day and the leather already started to break in and mold more to my feet and that seemed to help with the stiffness of the bottoms too. The insoles are removable

    1. Hi Cindy, totally possible but I couldn't find a style that was available in my size in both adult and kids. That was the closest I could get so it is an observation I found that the sizing may not be the same across both adult and kids. I personally don't like to add insoles it's never worked for me.

Let me know what you think of the Espars when you can!

  5. I reached my maximum words. The insoles are removable and since I have to add an insole to make them smaller anyway I added a gel insole under the original one. I have to say I’m now in love with my campos! Ok part 2 I shouldn’t have looked but the veja website then put their esplars on sale in a color that was on my wish list. I couldn’t resist and ordered those too. I just received them yesterday so I’ll give you a comparison of the 2 styles later on when I have more time. Sorry for the long winded comment. I hope your readers are even interested Cindy

We tried HelloFresh for the past two months - Here's our review

Hi everyone! This post is written by my husband. Some of you may know he does all the cooking around here. 😅 We noticed we were spending a lot of money on food and eating out every month and wanted to see if a meal kit service would save us money and time. After looking at a few meal kit services we settled on HelloFresh. Without further ado, here's Jared's review. (Original post date Aug 2022). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ As you may have seen from Leslie's Instagram stories for the past 2 months, we've been using HelloFresh for most of our meals. The main drivers for this were to better track what we eat and because on the advice of my doctor, I should be eating more home cooked meals. Before I go any further, it should be noted that my original career path was in culinary arts, but twists and turns in life changed that. So I do have formal cooking experience. A little background story. Over the years, I've developed
