Fit Review Friday! Banana Republic Pauline Linen Midi Dress, Maxine Linen Romper Set, Palma 4 inch Linen Short, Linen Sharp Shoulder T-Shirt & Linen Polo

Happy Friday! My shoulder is pretty sore and achy so this will be a quick review. I'm out of my sling and boy was it weird not being able to control my arm for a day. I was typing with one hand which took forever. I have a bunch of posts lined up in preparation of my procedure, so here we go!

For reference I'm 4 feet 11 inches tall and typically wear size PXS or P0 in Banana Republic. I also wear size 4 in Lululemon tops and bottoms, size PXS in Athleta.

I'm wearing size PXS in this dress and while it does fit, I think it needs a belt to give it some shape. Otherwise it drapes like a big sack. It adds a lot of volume to the lower half of the body. Even so I think this runs true to size. The linen fabric is quite heavy and ever so slightly see-through. I do love that the dress has pockets! For a full length dress, this is very petite friendly even if the v-neck is very deep. I am wearing a low cut bralette from Free People and it does the trick.

This linen romper set is SO cute. I'm wearing size Petite 0 and it's true to size but very very fitted. The linen fabric has zero stretch to it. Like none at all. Because of this, getting it zipped up was almost impossible for me, I had to get my husband involved to help me put it on and take it off. Which leads me to say that this romper is not practical at all. How does one go to the bathroom in this? The zipper is in the back and you have to be super flexible and need near contortionist level of flexibility. Unless you go up a size or two and then maybe it would be easier, but then it wouldn't look nearly as cute.

The fit is amazing and you can see the the zipper goes all the way from the top to below the belt, near where the pockets begin. With zero stretch, it is very difficult. Also, the zipper pull is very tiny.

My husband wanted me to keep it because it looked so good on, but I said, "Nope absolutely not. If I can't go to the bathroom by myself, it's not happening!" So I just took a lot of photos to remember it by. 😆

The color indigo is absolutely lovely. It does come with the matching bandeau with adjustable shoulder straps.

After reading the reviews for these shorts I decided to size up. Many said the waistband has zero give and I found this is true. I guess linen in general is not stretchy. I prefer the waistband to sit under my belly button and I found sizing up made it comfortable for me. As a result, the rest of the short was too baggy around the hip and thigh. The opening is also very wide as well. The length at 4 inches hit a couple of inches above the knee.

If you have a small waist to hip ratio this would probably be a better fit. I did not find these to be very flattering, so this was a return for me. The linen is medium-weight and slightly see-through but not by much. The downside is these are dry-clean only.

Shorts are Lululemon (old)

Now this tank I absolutely love! XXS was sold out, so I went with XS and while it is a little loose, I think it still looks flattering. Love the saturated Navy and tempted to buy in black as well, but I think the color might be too close. The linen is light weight and so comfortable for summer. This is a high quality piece with an amazing drape. I've already worn this to the office under a loose cardigan and love it.

I haven't bought a polo in a long time and I love this linen version from Banana Republic. This polo runs large, I recommend sizing down. I found it to be slightly loose even in the smallest size XXS. The v-neck is a little deeper than I prefer, but it's not a deal breaker for me. The comfort and softness of this polo feels amazing. One thing that I really want to stress is how soft the linen is from Banana Republic. The quality is top notch. None of the pieces I have purchased from BR have been scratchy. None a single one. So even though I only kept two pieces, I am a huge fan of their linen line.

That's it for me! Hope you all have a wonderful weekend! I will be taking it easy this weekend. My procedure went well and I have a lot of PT coming up.

  1. The linen romper is so cute, sad it didn't work out, but totally agree on being able to easily go to the bathroom is essential. Thanks for sharing.

  2. Glad to hear your procedure went well. I hope the physio does the trick and I wish you a speedy recovery!

I'm not a big fan of linen because of the wrinkle-factor, but those pieces are pretty cute! I really like how the polo looks.

I see the Ribbed Softstreme Relaxed T-Shirt went on markdown. $64 is a more reasonable price for that. I wish it had looked better on me....

I'm attempting to join you in your no-buy August, but it might turn into a low-buy instead, lol. I keep looking at the pieces in Purple Ash and I'm very tempted!

    1. Hi Lola! Thank you! My PT said the shoulder is looking great so far. I have high hopes.

Yeah, I don't find that the tops wrinkle as easily. I feel like the shorts and the romper would have shown more wrinkles.

Oh yes, the Ribbed Softstreme T-Shirt was tempting me but I am on a no buy this month.... hey if you join me that would be great! Even if it is a low-buy month for you! Purple Ash is pretty, so I can see why you're tempted. I just have to not look for too long.... maybe it will still be there in September!

    1. Hi LucieB! Thanks, it does look really amazing. Maybe you can try calling to see if they can locate one for you in the stores for you to try?

  4. What a shame about the romper!!! It's so cute! The zipper is small enough in the back, it seems like they could've easily switched it to a front zipper and it would have still been relatively hidden in the shorts part.

I've never really been into linen since I always thought it was rough feeling. It's nice to know the BR pieces are soft. I recently bought a pair of linen blend shorts from J Crew Factory, mostly because of the bright pink color, but their linen is fairly smooth feeling as well. It's got me interested in linen now. :)

    1. Hi Stacy! Thank you! Yes, or at least on the side of the romper, that might have been an option too. They really should have made it easier to take on and off.

I am pretty late to the linen game too. Only started becoming interested this summer. I had some pieces from J.Crew a few years ago that I liked but wasn't obsessed with it. BR I think has better linen quality. Although about 20 years ago, Gap kids had this amazing linen pant that I wore until it was trashed. It was the softest linen ever, but it really did wrinkle easily. But I loved it even so!

We tried HelloFresh for the past two months - Here's our review

Hi everyone! This post is written by my husband. Some of you may know he does all the cooking around here. 😅 We noticed we were spending a lot of money on food and eating out every month and wanted to see if a meal kit service would save us money and time. After looking at a few meal kit services we settled on HelloFresh. Without further ado, here's Jared's review. (Original post date Aug 2022). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ As you may have seen from Leslie's Instagram stories for the past 2 months, we've been using HelloFresh for most of our meals. The main drivers for this were to better track what we eat and because on the advice of my doctor, I should be eating more home cooked meals. Before I go any further, it should be noted that my original career path was in culinary arts, but twists and turns in life changed that. So I do have formal cooking experience. A little background story. Over the years, I've developed
