Happy New Year! 2023 Musings

Hope you all had a safe and Happy New Year celebration. My husband and I had a lovely dinner at our favorite local sushi restaurant. We almost always order the same thing when we go. Cucumber and seaweed salad to start, three rolls and a hand roll. Then we came home and binged Jack Ryan. We went through 5 episodes and will probably finish it tonight.

We stayed up until 2 am and went to bed. That was our hip-hop-happenin' New Year celebration. 😂

This morning I had my Kettle & Fire bone broth and the last of our shrimp cocktail which Flash woke up immediately from his nap and sniffed. 😹 He actually doesn't even like shrimp!

Look back on 2022

I kept up with my workouts but recently re-injured my left shoulder. It's an old injury that became aggravated again. I will have to lay off my upper body workouts for a little while. That kind of sucks going into 2023, but I'm determined to overcome it and get better. I will be making a doctor's appointment later this week and will hopefully find out more.

In terms of shopping I crunched the numbers and ended up spending about the same on Lulu as I did the year before. I spent a little more on Athleta in 2022 and the same on Aviator Nation. I guess with the price increases this year, I will take it as a win.

Goals for 2023

I'd like to take up meditation on a regular basis and keep up with journaling in the mornings. We will be heading into the year of the rabbit and thought this journal was so cute!

I'm also going to focus on making sure my left shoulder is properly healed this year. I guess I'll be doing a lot of leg workouts and cardio. I'm trying not think about all my upper body gains disappearing, especially since upper body strength does not come easy for me. All that hard work - gone. I'll be starting from scratch and who knows when that will be.

In terms of my closet, I really want to pair it down to my absolute favorites, so I expect a closet clean-out coming in January and February. I'm even thinking about putting a hold on any new additions to my closet until I determine what I really love in my current wardrobe. I just feel this urge to purge! I still have a bunch of reviews I haven't posted yet, so I can work on getting those up before I order anything new (I will make an exception for limited edition Lunar New Year items).

I also want to grow my YouTube channel this year. I'm hoping to post 2 videos a month. I'm still pretty intimated making videos. It's kind of scary to me because I'm not used to being on video. I'm pretty shy to be honest.

That pretty much sums up my musings! Let me know what your goals are for 2023 and how did you feel about 2022?

Here's to a happy and healthier 2023!

  1. It sounds like you had a fun New Year's celebration! My husband and I cooked a brisket and were in bed by 12:01am. Partiers we are not :)

I like your goals for 2023. I'm sorry to hear your shoulder is giving you trouble. Perhaps your doctor can recommend physiotherapy to help speed the healing?

I hear you about wanting to do a closet clear-out. I have the urge to do the same, but right now I'm finding it too overwhelming to get started. I think I'm going to have to attack it in stages.

And I'm excited that you want to expand your YouTube channel! I know it can be intimidating, but from what I've seen you post so far, you have nothing to be self-conscious about. Your videos have been very thorough and helpful, just like your blog! I look forward to seeing more :)

    1. Hi Lola! I hope so, will do what it takes to heal up. I'll write some updates along the way.

I hear you about feeling overwhelmed. I know what that feels like. Attacking it in stages is a good way to think about it. I usually like to separate it out into four sections. Office clothes, lounge clothes, workout clothes and outwear. You can work on one category at a time.

Thank you so much! That's so nice of you to say. That gives me the boost I need. =)

  2. I love this! My bf and I had a similar NYE. We went to a fish restaurant across the street for dinner and had some of our favs: fried calamari, fish & chips, and fish tacos. I think we went to bed around 8:30 PM, lol! Ah, to be 35.

I also have an old injury that has reared up recently. It's so hard not to get discouraged and worry about losing progress, but I try to remind myself that there is always progress to be made and look at it as a step in a different direction vs a step back. My injury is from deadlifting, so I can no longer do any heavy lifts or single-leg lifts. I've enjoyed Orange Theory and spinning over the past year and have been excited to see improved cardio as well as a lot of unexpected lower body gains (from spinning). You never know where your fitness journey may lead!

My store got in a super cute Nulux tennis dress last week. It's a high neck tank (no bra) with a skirt that's pleated in the front on one site. I'm hoping to see it upload today - or even just a skirt version of it.

    1. Hi LZ! Hahaha, oh how I wish I was still 35. =D

That's such a positive way to look at things. I will try and focus on growing my glutes and cardio fitness. Maybe I'll really get into running! LOL. Thank you for that! We'll see where 2023 takes us.

So far I am not seeing the tennis dress in the upload. Seems like a pretty underwhelming drop. I was hoping for the LNY items, no dice. Maybe next week! I'm on a low-buy but will make exceptions for limited edition items.

  3. Sorry to hear an old shoulder injury is bothering you, Leslie, and I know how frustrating it can be. I was keen on building my upper body muscles but ended up injuring myself and I haven’t been doing any weight bearing exercises for a long time. Like you, I feel that all the hard work was gone. :(. I hope your shoulder issue will be completely healed in 2023.

I also want to clean up my wardrobe but it’s a huge project. I might try selling some clothes and bags via Poshmark and have set up an account. However, I find it quite annoying as I’ve been getting notifications many times a day with new followers and I ended up muting the notification alert lol. I probably won’t know if someone is interested in something I post for sale and send me a message. :D

I’m glad to hear that you plan to expand your YouTube channel! I’ve been loving all of your videos so far and I wish you a big success!

    Have an amazing 2023 everyone!

    Andrea

    1. Hi Andrea! Ahhh we're in the same boat with upper body injuries. Will try and be patient with my body, I know as we get older it gets harder.

I'm definitely planning on listing items on Poshmark. Hoping to make some progress over the next few weeks. As long as you check the Poshmark app once a day I would say that's probably fine, so you don't miss any messages.

      Here's to a healthier 2023 for us!

We tried HelloFresh for the past two months - Here's our review

Hi everyone! This post is written by my husband. Some of you may know he does all the cooking around here. 😅 We noticed we were spending a lot of money on food and eating out every month and wanted to see if a meal kit service would save us money and time. After looking at a few meal kit services we settled on HelloFresh. Without further ado, here's Jared's review. (Original post date Aug 2022). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ As you may have seen from Leslie's Instagram stories for the past 2 months, we've been using HelloFresh for most of our meals. The main drivers for this were to better track what we eat and because on the advice of my doctor, I should be eating more home cooked meals. Before I go any further, it should be noted that my original career path was in culinary arts, but twists and turns in life changed that. So I do have formal cooking experience. A little background story. Over the years, I've developed
