Fit Review! Athleta x Alicia Keys Embrace Jacket, Keys Velvet Luxe Puffer & Keys Wool Cashmere Socks

Happy Monday! I am SUPER excited to share the Athleta x Alicia Keys holiday collaboration with you guys. I picked out a few pieces to try from the limited edition collection. I stuck to coats and jackets mainly because I knew the bottoms would never fit since they do not come in petite sizing, much to my dismay. Athleta really needs to make these limited edition pieces available in ALL sizes.

For reference I'm 4 feet 11 inches tall and typically wear size PXS in Athleta. I also wear size 4 in Lululemon tops.

This coat really surprised me. I didn't think I was going to love this coat as much as I do. This puffer coat is seriously a piece of artwork. I don't think I've ever fell in love with a puffer coat like this in a long time. Yes, it is oversized and I know that's not for everyone, but the details and the quality in this coat is incredible. The fabric itself is beautiful, the brushed velvet feels very soft to touch. There's also a lovely sheen to it. I absolutely adore the gold hardware against the deep burgundy velvet. The combination looks super luxurious. The hardware does feel heavy and the coat is best for cold weather temperatures. The insulation is  75% down and 25% fowl feathers.

The sleeves are long, as expected, but what I really love about the sleeves are the zippers. At first I thought it looked a little too weird, but the more I wore it land looked at the photos afterwards, it is such a fantastic detail to have. I know I tend to run hot and the zipper option lets you keep the coat on and when it gets too warm, just unzip the sleeves to air out! I mean, how fantastic is that? The double zipper in the front of the coat offers the same solution but the zippered sleeves are extra amazing. It kind of looks like you're wearing a cape with the sleeves unzipped.

Every single photo I took looked so gorgeous that I couldn't decide which ones to cut out for this review, so I apologize in advance for the million photos. The hood is removable with five snaps. The waist has a bungie cord to tighten and customize as you like. There's also another bungie cord at the bottom hem as well. There's also a zippered pocket on the inside of the coat.

I'm wearing size XXS and while I do think a petite sizing would have fit me a little better, but considering it's meant to be oversized, I think the XXS works too. I do wish the sleeves were just a little shorter, but I love this coat so much I am willing to overlook it.

This coat is VERY warm, but I am looking forward to wearing this when I head to New York for Thanksgiving week. It'll be freezing by then I'm sure and this will be fantastic to have with me. Price is $429 retail, which I think is a little much for it, but I was able to get this at a discount. I think it's easily worth $300 to $350. If you can get it in that price range I think it's a fair price based on the details and the quality.

Alright, next up we have the Keys Embrace Jacket also in Dark Maroon.  I had such high hopes for this one!

I'm wearing size XXS. This jacket looked so cute on the model, but in person it's too big and not in a cute way. It looks like a monk robe on me. 😅 I love the Dark Maroon color, but the draping looks sloppy and not flattering.

There are also too many drawstrings hanging down the front of the coat. Two strings I think would have been fine, but four is a bit much. The drawstrings from the waist could be shorter and that may have been a better design in my opinion. It's just too busy in the front with everything going on.

I love the double zipper on the jacket and the cinched waist. The inside is lined with plush micro fleece. This is a medium weight jacket that would be perfect for transitional fall weather.

I love the front patch pockets, they are deep!

Overall, this definitely needs to be offered in petite sizing. This was an easy pass for me. I am glad I tried it though!

For fun I decided to pick up a pair of wool cashmere socks for the crazy price of $89. I mean seriously? It's only 15% cashmere to boot. It's very soft ribbing and cozy for sure and it actually fits my tiny foot which was surprising. They're advertised as knee high socks but honestly, they're so long they are thigh-high socks on me. They do look really good with some Dr. Marten boots though, I'll give it that. Pair it with a tunic of a cute mini dress and you're all set. Is it worth $89? Definitely not, but if you can get it with a discount code and some rewards on top of that? Do it.

Size S/M (Size 4 to size 6.5)

That's it for me! Hope you all have a great start to another brand new week!

  1. I was interested in the Keys Embrace Jacket and thank you so much for the fit review. The drawstrings make the jacket look very busy and it's definitely a deal breaker for me.

The Keys Velvet Luxe Puffer, on the other hand, is a sweet surprise! It does look very cute and I'm loving all the design details. The lovely sheen gives the velvet material a luxurious look, and the Dark Maroon color is simply gorgeous. To be honest it is big on you but if it makes your heart sing, it's a keeper! :)

    1. Hi Andrea! Thanks, it does look big but most puffers do make you look like a marshmallow. My friend says I look like a moth with the wings. I love it. It's the most luxurious coat I own! Definitely special. I can't wait to wear it in NY.

  2. I have to admit, the pieces in this Alicia Keys drop don't catch my eye as much as the previous launch, but wow, that Dark Maroon color is beautiful, especially in the velvet fabric. It's a shame Athleta doesn't offer petite sizing with these collaborations.

I like the details on the puffer, but for me, the zippers running down the sleeves is a deal breaker for me. I once had a leather jacket with zippers on the wrists, and they drove me crazy :) I'm imagining brushing snow off my car wearing that puffer, and the zippers accidentally rubbing against the paint.....eek! I agree that it's a super luxurious coat, and it will be perfect for strolling around NY!

    1. Hi Lola! There's always one or two pieces from every collaboration that catches my eye. Sometimes they are offered in petite sizing, but more often than not, we're usually forgotten about. Ahhhh yes, there's no snow down here in the south, but there might be snow when I get to NY, hopefully not! But alas I leave the snow cleaning to my husband LOL!

  3. Maroon and gold are always so nice together! The first jacket reminds me of the Roksanda collab. I think it would wear me more than I would wear it, but it is lovely and has some really unique details.

The second looks more like a robe - a Harry Potter-ish robe. I don't dislike it, but I wouldn't wear it out as a jacket.

    1. Hi LZ- Yes, it does remind me of the Roksanda collabortion. Good eye. I do feel like this is more wearable. The Roksanda one was really out there and very long in length. I was enamored with that collection too!

  4. That last outfit, with the socks, is adorable! I think it’s modern, a bit edgy, perfect for a city outing. Did you keep the socks?

    1. Hi! Thank you, the dress is an old Athleta dress from a couple of years ago. I am keeping the socks, my feet are the only thing that gets really cold in the winter, so I'm hoping these socks will keep me warm!

  5. Thank you for the fit review, Leslie! I adore the velvet Maroon coat on you. It is definitely a statement piece. I agree with the previous comment that the last outfit is my favorite. Are the socks itchy at all?

  7. Wow that puffer is so stunning and looks so beautiful on you! I gasped when I saw the puffer! It looks so luxe and t's worth the price you got it for for sure. Haha monk robe jacket! I think it's a cute style but too big for you.
I love those socks on you but wow the price! They are very festive and love the colors of the pieces you ordered.

  9. Wow too bad there's no petite sizing for the puffer. It will be too overwhelming on my small frame, Thanks for the review! Cindy

  10. Great review! Really appreciate your perspective on the puffer jacket. I am petite as well, but I have long given up on proper sizing for me. That said, the puffer jacket looks great on you. I translate that as it should look good on me ;) personally, I like the look of the sleeves and usually prefer longer sleeves. Out of curiosity though, have you looked or did you consider the puffer in gold? They look almost identical to this puffer in burgundy but a different color. I’m interested to know if you may done a comparison and what you thought. Thanks so much for the thoughtful and helpful reviews!

    1. I actually recommended the gold version to my BFF in New York. It's not my style, but it's definitely hers. The cut and style is identical to the velvet. Basically the color and fabric are different.

My BFF says "the fabric is a coated nylon, I believe they would consider this a type of lamé. I don’t own anything quite like this, the best I can describe the fabric is like 60% the standard puffer or perhaps umbrella fabric (but thicker and sturdier) with a coating and maybe like 40% the shiny Moncler puffer jacket that appears like patent. Remember the keychain floaters that people use on boats that are spongy and shiny? Sort of like that but not as “tacky” feeling. It’s metallic but not a metallic thread so it’s not abrasive, it’s smooth but has a bit more drag to the feel, while still not tacky like say legging lamé would be. It’s what I imagine the LuLu lavender iridescent fabric puffer to feel like. It’s not light weight and packable like Uniqlo’s ubiquitous puffer in a sack but it’s also not heavy duty nylon. Unsure of denier, maybe half the denier of a drawstring nylon back pack. Sounds “squeakier” when you drag your finger across it, a higher pitch."

I'll actually feature her review in an upcoming post and will add photos. She's 5 foot 9 though! She also purchased the same size, XXS. It looks great on her too.

We tried HelloFresh for the past two months - Here's our review

Hi everyone! This post is written by my husband. Some of you may know he does all the cooking around here. 😅 We noticed we were spending a lot of money on food and eating out every month and wanted to see if a meal kit service would save us money and time. After looking at a few meal kit services we settled on HelloFresh. Without further ado, here's Jared's review. (Original post date Aug 2022). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ As you may have seen from Leslie's Instagram stories for the past 2 months, we've been using HelloFresh for most of our meals. The main drivers for this were to better track what we eat and because on the advice of my doctor, I should be eating more home cooked meals. Before I go any further, it should be noted that my original career path was in culinary arts, but twists and turns in life changed that. So I do have formal cooking experience. A little background story. Over the years, I've developed
