Fit Review - Store Try Ons! Lululemon Multi-Cargo High-Rise Hiking Skirt, Softstreme High-Rise Straight Leg Crop, Athleta Seasoft V-Neck Sweatshirt

How is everyone doing? I went to Avalon to make some returns and decided to do a couple of quick try-ons.

For reference I'm 4 feet 11 inches tall. I typically wear size 4 in Lululemon tops and bottoms. For Athleta I usually wear size XS/PXS.

I thought this hiking skirt looked pretty cool in black, but the store only had Seal Gray in my size. The waist hits at my bellybutton and feels true to size. The 16 inch length falls just above my knees. The liner also measures 6 inches long. The skirt felt fairly comfortable with a drawstring tie to adjust the fit. The large pocket on the side definitely looks better in the black version, it just looks too big and bulky in the two-tone color. Overall, I liked the skirt but the price is steep at $98. I would wait for this to drop on WMTM.

Next up we have the Softstreme High-Rise Straight Leg Crop. I'm wearing size 4 in the fitting room pictures. The length measures 24 inches long. The waist is high-rise and feels just a little too snug for me. The length in the size 4 also hits at a slightly strange place on my legs. I ended up grabbing the size 6 to compare, and took the size 6 home.

With my APL TechLoom Bliss shoes, they felt slightly too short. I wanted about an extra inch in length for a more casual wide leg look. The waist is also too snug, you can see it doesn't look very flattering on me. The Softstreme on the crops feel heavy, I would say it's more of a fall/spring weight. Definitely too heavy for summer. They might be okay for mild winters.

There are dark seams going down the side and back of the crops. I know vertical lines are supposed to give the illusion of longer legs, but do you guys think that's actually true? It's hard for me to tell. When I got home, I paired it with the Loungeful Hoodie in White Opal and really like the look. Super comfy and casual, this is the epitome of loungewear, but it looks so good! Here's a sneak peak of what's coming up for Friday's post.

A few close ups of the waistband.

I also stopped by Athleta and tried on the new Seasoft V-Neck Sweatshirt in black. The XS fit well. The band at the hem isn't very stretchy. My biggest issue is the sleeve length. It's very long and slightly annoying. I do think this should be offered in petite sizes as well. It's only available in regular sizes. The Seasoft fabric feels lightweight and would work for cool summer nights.

I did not take this home with me. I have more Seasoft reviews coming up as well. Stay tuned! That's all I have for you today, have a great start to the last week of July!

The V-neck is deep, it's almost too low for my tastes.

  1. Thanks for the fit review, Leslie! I know you don't like high rise pants and glad the Softstreme High-Rise Straight Leg Crop works for you! It looks nice and comfy, but I wish it didn't have the seam down each leg in the back. Looks a bit busy to me.

I prefer the crew neck version to the Seasoft V-Neck Sweatshirt on you. I read the reviews and both versions seem to have a tight band which isn't stretchy. The sleeves are bulky and yet the body has a slim fit. Not that appealing to me especially when I am not a big fan of drop shoulders. I might give the crew neck version a try cos all colors are on sale.

Can't wait to read the next Seasoft review! :) Andrea

    1. Hi Andrea! Yes, I just adjust the waistband to sit where I like it. That's the nice thing about pants vs tights / shorts with liners. I'm undecided about the seams, but I don't mind them since it's a dark navy, I feel like they blend in a little bit.

If you try the crew neck version, let me know what you think. I returned because of the tight band...

Have a great rest of your day!

    2. hi Andrea, I ordered the Seasoft scoop-neck sweatshirt in XS and I like it a lot. The a scoop-neck is not too low and looks flattering. It would be nice if the waistband were more stretchy, but it didn't bother me. I think XXS would be a tad too tight, so I'm glad I went with the bigger size. If you end up ordering, I hope you'll like it too!

    4. Hi Leslie and Karen,
I just ordered the Scoop Neck Seasoft Sweatshirt in size XS in Abalone Grey and Black. I am usually a size XXS and hope size XS works! I love that Athleta lets you return sale items. :)

Thanks again for the great advice! Andrea

  3. I enjoy hiking every now and then - not an avid hiker by any means - but I don't think I would ever wear a skirt hiking. Shorts or pants? Yes. I don't really wear skirts ever, though. I'm still waiting for the convertible pants to go on sale. Hopefully the green ones are still in stock by that time, as the other color is too close to my skin tone. I recently picked up a PT gig at LLL, so my eyes are peeled for when they get marked down!

The Chargefeels launch this week. Do you plan to try them out?

    1. Hi LZ- Yeah I kinda have to agree, I think they're a cute look though.

Ohhhh congrats on the new gig! You'll have to let us in on any news you can share haha.

I miiiight try out the Chargefeels. I wasn't too impressed with the BlissFeels, so hopefully these will be better. Are you going to get a pair?

    2. Probably not! I already have my go-to shoes for all of my various activities, and I don't love the design of any of their shoes so far.

  4. I have to admit, I didn't give the hiking skirt a second glance when it first dropped, but in real life, it's actually pretty cute! I would never hike in it either, but I could wear it walking my dog. It's far too expensive too, but maybe on markdown....

Love the Softstreme pants, but that length wouldn't be good for me. The inseam is too short for me to wear as full-length pants, but too long for them to be a true crop either. I quite like the seam down the back - I think it gives them a more tailored look. Thank you for the review of these!

I'm looking forward to the ChargeFeel drop. They're pricey, but I think I'd like to give them a go. They're being touted as a "workout shoe", so I'm curious as to how they'll be. Plus, that magenta color is calling to me!

    1. Hi Lola, if the black goes on markdown, I would definitely consider it!

I'm still debating about the ChargeFeel, I guess it depends if I really like the color and if my size is still in stock!

  5. hi Leslie! Thanks for another great review! The hiking skirt looks petite-friendly and well executed. I agree that it would look better in black. The Softstreme High-Rise Straight Leg Crop looks great on you! The length is perfect and I love how you styled it with the Loungeful Hoodie in White Opal! I'm looking forward to your review of other Seasoft items! Have a good week!

    1. Hi Karen! Thanks! I think that's going to be my go-to outfit when it gets a little cooler. =)

Friday's Fit review should be a good one!

  6. Wow! Leslie seal grey skirt has liner, buy the skirt cut out the liner, wear the shorts on it's own. With legs like yours be shame to have them covered up in long 16 inch skirt. Light colors difficult to wear on anyone, but you pull it off very well.

V-neck sweatshirt does fit you very well. Don't know if it is summer worthy clothing to think of wearing now. Plunging neckline isn't bad or odd at all, suits a feminine style. Sleeves look little long but that problem you may encounter with various long sleeve tops. Recommend keeping the black sweatshirt if it works for you.

    1. Thanks Mack! You're too kind. =) I actually like the look of the skirt in the black, very sporty. The V-neck sweatshirt isn't bad with the long sleeves but I didn't 100% love it. Maybe in another color? I'll have to keep an eye out.

We tried HelloFresh for the past two months - Here's our review

Hi everyone! This post is written by my husband. Some of you may know he does all the cooking around here. 😅 We noticed we were spending a lot of money on food and eating out every month and wanted to see if a meal kit service would save us money and time. After looking at a few meal kit services we settled on HelloFresh. Without further ado, here's Jared's review. (Original post date Aug 2022). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ As you may have seen from Leslie's Instagram stories for the past 2 months, we've been using HelloFresh for most of our meals. The main drivers for this were to better track what we eat and because on the advice of my doctor, I should be eating more home cooked meals. Before I go any further, it should be noted that my original career path was in culinary arts, but twists and turns in life changed that. So I do have formal cooking experience. A little background story. Over the years, I've developed
