My Husband's Favorites / Father's Day Ideas

Hi everyone! This is Leslie writing the introduction, but my husband is actually the one who put together his favorites list and typed up the description/commentary. I will include links throughout the post. He's not a fan of being photographed, so I'll spare him, but for reference he's 47 years old, 5 foot 9.5" tall. 😅 The only time I do force him to take a photo is on our anniversary which is coming up in a few days! 💜

Here are his favorite things in no particular order-

(Size up, these run small.)

Aviator Nation Hoodie

As someone that wears hoodies all year round, these have become my new favorite because of their relaxed feel and the jersey-esque feel of the fabric. Prior to Aviator Nation, I mainly wore hoodies from AllSaints. I will say that AllSaints hoodies are better when it comes to needing to have a hoodie that’s a little more dressed up looking, but for anything causal, Aviator Nation wins.

Allbirds Tree Dasher & Trino Quarter Sock

My feet tend to run very hot. Stepping into cold water is one of my favorite sensations. Given that, I prefer the Tree Dashers and Trino socks from Allbirds. If given the opportunity, I would go barefoot as much as possible, but since that isn’t feasible, this combo makes me feel like I’m not wearing much on my feet. In the winter, I will switch to Wool Runners but typically don’t use heavier socks unless we go back home to the north. If my feet ran cold and I preferred not being barefoot, then I’d get the Bombas socks. Even though Bombas indicates if a sock is for the left or right foot, I’ve mixed them up and didn’t notice a difference. I don’t have time in the morning to worry about which sock goes on which foot.

*I've partnered up with Allbirds! Click on my link for a free pair of Trino socks with your purchase of shoes or apparel. Offer will automatically be applied at checkout if socks are added to your cart.*

(Size up for a looser fit.)

Vuori Strato Tech Tee

I should make it clear that I really don’t choose my own clothes fully. I’m basically a dress up doll for my wife. She’ll buy things, I’ll try it on and we’ll either keep it or return it. If I have no opinion on an item but she likes the way it looks, we’ll keep it. I only wear t-shirts but one thing I typically don’t like about them is that they’re either a little too form fitting or look a little too loose and frumpy. That’s usually resolved by wearing a hoodie but the first time I tried on a Vuori Strato Tee, I enjoyed the fit and find myself more inclined to forgo the hoodie.

*This is Leslie, it's totally true, I pick out the clothes for him! I guess I should probably order him a couple more of these since he likes them and looks great too! 😆*

Restoration Hardware Turkish Terry Robe

Leslie got me a robe early on in our relationship. I never wanted one and I think it was one of those “what can I get him for xmas” gifts. When friends find out I wear a robe, most of them will laugh and honestly, if I didn’t have one, I probably would laugh too. But after having it for I think 8 years now, I can’t imagine life without a bathrobe, especially in the winter. I think a robe is one of those things that never crosses a guy’s mind to buy and they don’t see much use for one but once you get one, it’s like ‘daaaaaaaamn’. As I mentioned, the robe is around 8 years old and is showing some wear. When I feel like it’s time to be replaced, I’m leaning towards trying the robe from Parachute given how impressed I’ve been with the towels and amazingly impressed with the Percale bedding. I never thought it was worth buying expensive sheets (we mainly did it because she wanted them) but after a year of using them, I can’t imagine not spending money on quality bed sheets.

*This is Leslie, and yes Parachute Percale bedding is amazing for hot sleepers!*

AirPods Pro

I’m a semi-avid collector of audio equipment. I have more headphones than I should be willing to admit to. That said, I reach for my AirPods Pro daily. Sure, I think the sound quality on the Sony WF-1000XM3 is better, but for someone in the Apple eco-system, the AirPods are just a no-brainer. Setup is insanely easy and the ability to switch between my iPhone, MacBook, iPad, and AppleTV is super simple and fast. Once I realized that I was mainly grabbing my AirPods over any of my other earbuds, I started selling the others on eBay.

Apple HomePod Mini

As mentioned previously, we’re in the Apple ecosystem. We use HomeKit devices a lot and the HomePod gives us really easy access to do things without needing to look for our phones. We change the A/C settings, turn lights on and off, and even do things with the TV like turning it on, pausing whatever it is we’re watching, and turning it off when we’re done. I would prefer to have regular HomePods as the sound quality on that was amazing but when they were fetching a premium price when it was discontinued, I sold it for more than I bought it and replaced it with a HomePod mini in the kitchen. If the rumors of the regular HomePod returning, I may actually replace our TV’s surround sound system with a pair.

Scuf Controller for the Playstation 5

If anyone plays console games with any seriousness, especially player vs. player type games, the ability to have additional buttons on a controller is a game changing experience. By having buttons on the bottom of a controller, you’re more easily able to make do moves that are challenging with just the standard buttons, like jumping, turning, and aiming all at the same time. (Here's a link to customize one yourself.)

Mission Workshop Sanction Backpack

When I had to commute daily to the office, the Sanction backpack from Mission Workshop was my work back of choice. I believe at this point, my bag is 8 years old and it’s still in great shape. The bag is roomy enough to hold my laptop and other accessories as well as a some drinks and snacks. I used to use shoulder bags but as I got older, I realized that I didn’t like how my shoulder would feel at the end of the day. Switching to a backpack resolved that and I don’t think I can ever go back to a cross body bag.

*It's Leslie again! My husband is somewhat of a geek/gadget nerd. 😆 I actually purchased four of these items for him as gifts. I'm happy to know some of my gifts ended up as his favorites! Did you guys enjoy this post? Let me know, maybe I can convince him to contribute more to my blog. Hah! That's it for me! Hope you all have a fantastic start to another week!*

    1. Haha, thanks Andrea!! I think most guys don't care that much about what they wear to be honest! Tees and Jeans and they're happy.

  2. This is a great list! I, too, serve as my boyfriend's stylist. We've been together for about a 1.5 years, and I think he's only bought a singular shirt this entire time. He has somehow been gifted (actual gifts, hand-me-downs, dumpster finds--no joke!) almost every article of clothing he owns. He's an athlete but had never owned LLL before me. Now, it makes up a big part of his wardrobe. :)

    1. Hi LZ! Your boyfriend is really lucky to be gifted Lulu!! I tried introducing my husband to Lulu but didn't find it as comfortable as Vuori. I think he has maybe a few tops and that's it. I guess in a way that's good lol. Only one of us can afford to be addicted to Lulu. LOL!

  3. hi Leslie! Thank you to both you and your husband for putting together this thoughtful review! I agree that the Vuori Strato Tech Tee is great! The semi-fitted style is easy to wear and the fabric is excellent quality! I don't know much about tech, so I very much appreciate his suggestions in that area! These are great gift ideas! Have a great week!

We tried HelloFresh for the past two months - Here's our review

Hi everyone! This post is written by my husband. Some of you may know he does all the cooking around here. 😅 We noticed we were spending a lot of money on food and eating out every month and wanted to see if a meal kit service would save us money and time. After looking at a few meal kit services we settled on HelloFresh. Without further ado, here's Jared's review. (Original post date Aug 2022). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ As you may have seen from Leslie's Instagram stories for the past 2 months, we've been using HelloFresh for most of our meals. The main drivers for this were to better track what we eat and because on the advice of my doctor, I should be eating more home cooked meals. Before I go any further, it should be noted that my original career path was in culinary arts, but twists and turns in life changed that. So I do have formal cooking experience. A little background story. Over the years, I've developed
