Fit Review Friday! Athleta Point Reyes Bomber II & Release Pant

Happy Friday! We are a third of the way into the month of February. How is everyone doing on their no/low-buy challenge? I was a little tempted by Aviator Nation's Valentine's Day sale. They offered a 20% off site wide coupon over the weekend. It was hard not to look! Otherwise, there hasn't been much to tempt me. Today, I have a fit review from Athleta. Just FYI - I ordered these back in January.

For reference I'm 4 feet 11 inches tall and typically wear size PXS/XXS in Athleta. I also wear size 4 in Lululemon tops and bottoms.

Point Reyes Bomber II Black Size PXS

This bomber style jacket really caught my eye, especially in the Tawny Rose so I ordered both available colors to try. Which one do you think I prefer? I'll let you know at the end of this post!

I'm wearing size PXS in both colors. The fit is spot on perfect. The sleeve length is not too long. It has a slight ruching detail that's very stylish and makes this jacket unique. There's a stowaway hood inside the collar which helps keep the collar upright.

The snaps at the side of the jacket are fantastic for customizing to your fit and style. I prefer the snaps to be left open. It is slightly more comfortable and adds a little flair. The two front pockets are a little shallow, so I would not keep anything of importance in them. They are definitely more for show.

Here are some photos of the jacket in Tawny Rose. I do feel like you can see more of the detail in this color.

The jacket feels a little more playful in Tawny Rose. It makes me feel a little more flirty and fun while the black makes me feel more badass. 😂

This jacket is a medium weight feel with wind resistant fabric. It's water repellant as well with UPF 50+ protection. Made of recycled polyester it's also nice to the planet. I'm a fan of this jacket and it was really hard for me to decide which color I liked more.

One inside zipped pocket.

Everyone raves about these pants so I had to try them on to see what the hype is all about. I'm wearing size XXS since petite sizing is not available for this style. Luckily the length is just a smidge from hitting the floor. They measure 24 inches long. The fabric is thin and very flowy, and meant to keep you cool. The waistband is super stretchy and very comfortable.

I think these are very flattering and look fantastic. There is a small chance you can flash a decent amount of leg because of the overlapping panels. My only concern is these are so soft, I do not think they will last very long.

Waistband detail.

So, which color should I keep for the bomber jacket? I'm leaning towards black! Do you agree? Let me know what you think. That's it for me! Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

  1. Thank you so much for the review of the Point Reyes Bomber II, Leslie! I love everything with ruchings and this jacket is so pretty in Tawny Rose. I didn't order it cos by the time I saw it, size XXS was sold out and I wasn't sure if size XS would be too large for me (now size XS is sold out as well LOL). While Tawny Rose shows the ruching details better, I think you'd probably get more use out of the Black one.

The Release Pant is cute and I believe LLL had something similar before. It's fun but not sure if it's something I would wear LOL.

Have a wonderful weekend, Leslie, and Happy Valentine's Day! <3

    1. Thanks Andrea! The Tawny Rose is super pretty but I think I would get more wear out of the black one. Athleta always restocks, so I wouldn't worry if your size is currently sold out. It will be back.

Happy Valentine's Day to you! =)

  2. You read my mind for this fit review! I was actually going to request a review of the bomber, but you beat me to it. It is awesome! If there are any left after February, I might indulge! I'm with you about the colors though - I like both on you!

The pants are cuter than I expected from Athleta's stock photos! The length looks quite nice for petites!

    1. Hi Lola! Which one would you go for?

Yes the length is almost perfect but I am quite short. I would like for it to be just a little bit shorter on me, but I can't really complain.

    2. It's a tough call between the two colors. The black is definitely more badass, but the rose is a more interesting color. I think if you plan on wearing it with jeans mostly, go with black! As for me, I will let fate decide and get whichever one (if either!) is still available after I'm done no-buy February. Although, after seeing your review for it, this jacket makes me tempted to cave!

    3. Hold out! You can do it, there's only 17 days to go. I'm pretty sure Athleta will restock this jacket even if it sells out.

  3. At first glance I thought they were two different jackets! I love the black. It looks edgy and the slightly darker elastic cuffs and waist band look really good where as the rose one looks more uniform in color even though you can see more detail. I think for something girly you could pick a more flirty top to wear and still have that contrast.
I got my silver blue Oversized Scuba today! It looks like a lighter version of tidewater teal which I love. It's a muted minty blue with some grey tones to it. The fit is honestly not the most flattering zipped up but half way zipped or unzipped it's SUPER cute. I wear my Scuba 1/2's unzipped half way bc it looks strange on me zipped up too. I love the color and am going to keep this but I'm definitely not stalking the site for these.

Also got my hotty hot HR in white. I've previously sized down bc people said it ran big but I got my TTS and it fits much nicer! Both sizes work... but since I've gained more leg muscle I find my size down a tiny bit too short. My TTS sits higher on my waist too which I prefer.

    1. Also love the pants! I don't own anything like it. I feel like flare pants are all the rage right now and I'm tempted to get a pair. Happy weekend!

    2. Hi Janessa! Hah you're totally right, I didn't even notice how the black color has a slightly darker trim. I think I'm definitely going to keep the black one now. I'm heading to Athleta tomorrow so I'll see if there's anything else to try on while I'm there.

Ohhhh glad you like the Silver Blue. I think if the arms weren't so baggy I would have an Oversized Scuba in my collection. I like my TTS in the Hotty Hots too. The size down kind of gives me a wedgie. lol. Have a wonderful weekend!

  4. hi Leslie! Thanks for another great review! The Point Reyes Bomber II looks great on you and I love that you can adjust the fit with the side snaps! I initially preferred black because of your outfit, but I think Tawny Rose will be nice if you plan to wear it with beige, khaki or other light coloured bottoms! Hee hee, not much help here, am I?

    Have a great weekend!

    1. Hi Karen! Thank you, that does help. I will probably wear it with jeans I think? But agree with your assessment with Tawny Rose. It would look great with lighter colored bottoms. I guess you could argue to keep both colors LOL! Have a great weekend!

    2. hm, if you ended up keeping the Always Effortless Jacket in Spice Chai then I vote for black for the Point Reyes Bomber!

    3. You have a good memory! That is another reason why I ended up keeping the black jacket. =)

  5. Love the popped up collar look! It does remind me of the AEJ but a more flattering length for petites. Unsure why they need to put in a seam in the middle of the back!

    1. Yeah I am not sure why they put the seam in the middle of the back, but it doesn't bother me too much since it still goes with the overall design. It's less noticeable in the black color which is what I ended up going with. =)

  6. The bombers are adorable on you ... if it were up to me, i'd keep the black because it's just more versatile.

We tried HelloFresh for the past two months - Here's our review

Hi everyone! This post is written by my husband. Some of you may know he does all the cooking around here. 😅 We noticed we were spending a lot of money on food and eating out every month and wanted to see if a meal kit service would save us money and time. After looking at a few meal kit services we settled on HelloFresh. Without further ado, here's Jared's review. (Original post date Aug 2022). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ As you may have seen from Leslie's Instagram stories for the past 2 months, we've been using HelloFresh for most of our meals. The main drivers for this were to better track what we eat and because on the advice of my doctor, I should be eating more home cooked meals. Before I go any further, it should be noted that my original career path was in culinary arts, but twists and turns in life changed that. So I do have formal cooking experience. A little background story. Over the years, I've developed
