I usually like to do New Year's resolutions but 2020 made all of that seem moot. I think being healthy, happy, and staying sane until we see Covid free days is all we can hope for. Be kind to yourself. Cut yourself some slack. Be nice to others.
2020 was a year where I was still able to exercise at home. I'll continue to do so and hopefully I'll get a little stronger this year.
My loungewear exploded. I replaced all of my bras which was pretty expensive. Looking at my spreadsheet I spent about $5,000 at Lululemon and probably close to $2,000 at Athleta in 2020. That's kind of nuts considering I spent $3000 total on both brands in 2019, which is a much more reasonable amount. I think for 2021, I want to be extremely selective on what I add to my closet this year. It has to be something I need, or needs to be replaced or just something very special.
I would also like to declutter just a little bit. I'll start donating/selling some of my things. I'll be going through each room a little bit each day. Just see where it takes me. I don't have definitive goals. It's just all very experimental at this point.
I'm also turning 40 years old in February. Who knew I would spend the last year of my 30s cooped up in a 1600 square foot condo with my husband and four cats? I also know that I won't be able to celebrate the milestone birthday the way I imagined other than a nice quiet dinner at home and a FaceTime call with my parents. I hope this year gets better for all of us.
With that, here's the first fit review for 2021. J.Crew Lodge Coat. I'm wearing size 2 petite. For reference I'm 4 feet 11 and typically size 4 in Lululemon tops.
I love J.Crew coats, they are always super high quality and so well made. I've owned a few in the past and had to sell some because I outgrew them! I had a hard time with the lighting for these photos. It's a very pretty blue-green turquoise, the colors here are a little too yellow. I tried color correcting, but it still doesn't look quite right. This is a classic J.Crew coat made of stadium-cloth wool. The quilted lining on the inside provides extra warmth without the bulk. I would say this is a jacket for temperatures in the 40s. Any colder and I would probably want to go with a down jacket. I also really like the hot pink detail on the inside lining.

I love the stylish stand up collar with extra ribbing. The length of the coat hits right above the knees and the sleeves are actually perfect. The size 2 petite is just right. I'm only wearing a t-shirt underneath the coat, but I could probably wear a very thin layer under but not much thicker than that. If you're looking to wear a sweater, I would size up. The reviews say it runs a little small, and I do think that's true especially in the shoulders and armpit area.
My only gripe about this coat is without the scarf, it looks a little plain on its own. Other than that, it's a very nice coat. I also like the ribbed cuffs. It keeps the wind chill out.
I am wearing it with
Abraham Moon for J.Crew Merino Wool Scarf and I think it's a fantastic combination. The scarf is a serious merino wool scarf. It's heavy and it's not very soft. It's not itchy either, but it wasn't quite what I was looking for.
In the end I decided to return this coat even though the fit was perfect for me. I felt like it needed to have a scarf otherwise it's a bit plain. See? I'm trying to only add something to my closet if it's very special. 😆
This is a true depiction of the color. It's very pretty.
That's it for me! Do you guys enjoy seeing reviews that are not Lululemon or Athleta based? I'm also curious if you have any resolutions. Leave me a comment below!

I stopped making new year resolutions a while back since I try to make adjustments throughout the year. Whether I succeed or not is another story lol. For 2021, I am with you about wanting life to go back to pre-COVID. I am not sure if it will ever be though, sigh.
ReplyDeleteI love the coat on you - the color, the fit, and the quality. I am scared of adding up what I spent on lulu in 2020, probably not too far behind you. Outgrowing my large lulu collection has been expensive. What I learned is not to buy too many pieces in each category. Fortunately I sold a portion of it earlier in the year. Resell values have been horrible lately because of lulu's deep discounts since Black Friday.
I love that you make adjustments throughout the year! I need to do that as well.
DeleteI agree, sales have been slow lately. Also doesn't help that the post office is backed up too. =(
That's good advice about not buying too many pieces in each category. I think also not buying the same item in different colors/patterns as well although I probably have 8 or 9 pairs in Aligns... I better not outgrow my size 4 bottom lol.
I am a big fan of stand up collar and love everything about this coat! I personally don’t find the coat plain without a scarf, cos the ribbed collar adds an interesting design feature. The color is gorgeous and I can tell from the pictures that workmanship is good. I would keep the coat if I were you cos it fits you perfectly!
ReplyDeleteWow, spending $5,000 on Lululemon is a lot, but not too surprising with Lululemon’s price increases. I don’t mind paying a bit more for special designs or quality items, but honestly 2020 Lululemon products have been pretty disappointing. I have way better Lululemon stuff from ten years ago!
I don’t think things will ever be the same after the pandemic. Let’s hope that life will be even better for everyone!
Ugh, I know I was shocked and kind of disgusted when I saw the amount total! I did sell some of my Lulu to offset some of the costs but I'm sure it wasn't nearly enough. I will put myself on a cap this year. It needs to be back to where it was before 2020.
DeleteI'm hoping by summer of this year I'll be able to see my friends and fam back in NY!
Happy new year, Leslie! I bought this same jacket in black a couple years ago. I like the classic cut and the wool is high quality. It has kept me warm in Toronto winters. The green is a nice choice! It's more interesting than black and looks beautiful with the Abraham wool scarf!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Karen! Good to know it keeps you warm in harsh Toronto winters! Maybe I'll circle back to this again next year in another color...
DeleteWow I love that coat color!! I like that the coat is plain because you can dress it up easily without making it too busy. I haven't bought anything from J Crew in years! I've never tried their coats either. It's really not cold enough to wear coats here D:
ReplyDeleteI've always loved J.Crew. They always have great work/office pieces. And I love their coats, they are so well made and basically last forever. I'm so sad I outgrew some of mine.
DeleteHi, love the Color of the coat. I actually just purchased the camel shade and love it. It’s my warmest wool coat and looks so polished on.
ReplyDeleteI myself have cleaned out m My closet During this dreadful pandemic. I gave much thought to what I need and what I truly don’t. I donated lots of items coats , shoes leggings etc, to a few girls at my local coffee shop this Christmas. I wanted to do something nice for someone that can’t afford the things we take for granted. Do we really need 10 coats, 20 pair of leggings and so on. I use to buy for the hell of it, now I rethink purchases. And the feeling I got giving to someone in need , as well as my local animal shelter is so much more fulfilling. So if your feeling Covid impact as we all are , then donate money and barely used clothing. I promise you’ll feel amazing.

Hi there! I totally agree. I actually just dropped off bags full of stuff over the weekend. It does feel good to donate but sadly, I still think I have tons more to give. It's something I do a few times a year as well as to charity. Always feels good to give. I hope this year I will buy less and give more. =)
