Review! Lululemon Double Strap Face Mask

Update- I have an another review for the Ear Loop Face Mask version.

Hope you all had a nice relaxing weekend. I have tons of reviews coming up, but first I need to cover the Lululemon Double Strap Face Mask. It's currently sold out, but I do expect them to restock at some point.

Before we get into it, let's take a look at the mask by itself.

First of all, this is a not a medical-grade mask and has only a single layer. There is no pocket for a filter, and it's not lined. The material feels like my In Alignment bra to be honest. It's very soft and pliable. Instead of ear loops, which is what I've grown accustomed to for all my masks, this one has a double strap that you adjust to your head. They're very similar to adjustable bra straps.

The inside has a very thick seam running down the middle of the mask along with a nose piece. There is no wire for the nose. By the way, I bought two masks, one for me and one for my husband. It's too small for my husband's face. The moment he opens his mouth to speak, the mask comes off his nose. 😆

The double straps aren't awful, but they do take some time getting used to. I have very short hair so getting it over my head wasn't a big deal for me. I did have to adjust it a little bit since I wear glasses. I placed the top strap go over my ears, similar to the way the ear loops are worn. The second strap just goes around the back of my neck.

My main gripe with this mask is the thick seam down the middle. It indents exactly where my lips are. I've tried to pop the indent back out but after 5-10 minutes it goes right back against my lips. It's definitely a little uncomfortable especially when you're trying to talk.

(Tried popping it back out, it doesn't stay though.)

As for fit, it is a little too big for my face. I have a wide but square face, so my face is not very long and the mask goes all the way under my chin and hits my throat. It also looks very lumpy from the side.

The plus side of having the double straps? Once I'm back in the car, I can pull it down and it turns into a neck warmer almost! Verdict? I'm sending my sister the other mask since I don't love it enough to keep both. Maybe she will like it? The best mask I've bought so far is from Athleta. They're the most comfortable and there's a pocket for a filter. They also fit my husband's face as well. I have about ten of them that we wash and rotate. They've held up well in the washing machine but I do put throw them in a mesh laundry bag.

(I definitely need another haircut soon.)

Did you get a Lululemon mask? If you did manage to snag one, let me know what you think and if you agree or disagree with my review!

Athleta, Werkshop, Rothy's Face Mask Review

Athleta is selling these limited edition silk face masks. They're extremely expensive at $49 a pop and each mask is apparently different and unique. The only downside is they're hand wash only. I guess because they're made of silk? I don't know if I would be willing to shell that kind of money out for one, but they sure are pretty!

That's it for me! Hope you all have a great Monday!

  1. The Lululemon mask makes you look so comical with the dent right over your mouth LOL!

It probably doesn’t offer much protection and I would hesitate to use it in a crowded place. Too bad we don’t have Athleta here in Canada, I’m tempted to give their masks a try. My friend has the GAP ones and she doesn’t speak highly of them.

    1. Interesting, you would think the GAP ones would be similar to Athleta. What is it that she doesn't like about them?

    2. She has the new design (ie. not the original pleated ones) and they fit very small, probably just good for teenagers. I read the reviews and a lot of people find the masks too small for adults. Old Navy has the pleated ones but they don’t come with a nose wire. :(

    3. Good to know they run small. It's very hard to find a really good mask it seems. From the 5 or 6 brands I've tried, Athleta is my go to. I have a feeling we will be wearing masks for a long long time. So it is important to find one you really like!

  2. I have the same Lulu mask. Mine does not have the indentation. Maybe yours is defective? I like the fit but I struggle with the overhead strap. I may convert the straps to the behind the ear style. The mask is thick but only has one layer so I only wear it when I am outdoor. Yup, the pleated mask from Athleta is my favorite.

    1. Interesting! I wish they were still available so I could read other reviews. Good to know that mine might be defective. I already gave my sister the other mask- I'll have to ask her if hers indents or not.

    2. Am, how would you convert it? Cut and resew? Would love to know!

  3. I bought one of the masks for my husband to try, and he really likes it. His doesn't dent, and the seam helps prevent it from being sucked into his nose/mouth when he breathes. He's a lung transplant recipient with decreased function due to rejection complications, unfortunately, so he actually can't breathe in a lot of masks. (It angers me so so much when healthy, normal people use the excuse that they can't breathe.) He approves of this one in that regard. It's a shame it's a single layer, though.

    1. I'm glad your husband likes this mask! Hopefully Lululemon will add a double layer or at least a pocket for a filter if they decide to re design it. But seriously wondering if mine is defective now!

    2. I think you should send Lululemon an email with a picture attached, Leslie. I’m sure they will refund you if the product is defective.

    3. That's not a bad idea... I will think about it!

    4. I just bought one and I have a dent right at my nose- the fabric keeps getting sucked up right at my nose, making it difficult to breathe. I don't mind the double strap, I think it's a good alternative if you have hearing aides or just don't like the pressure on the ears that build after extended use, but the dent really makes it difficult to breathe throughout the day- I am constantly readjusting. Did you happen to contact them?

    5. I have not contact Lulu yet- I've been meaning to give it one more try to see if adjusting the straps would help with the dent. I haven't gotten around to it. I keep reaching for my Athleta masks. BUT the one I gave my sister seems to be fine. She sent me a picture and it looks perfect on her. She really likes it. I'll try it again this week to make sure it's the mask and not me. Will let you know!

  4. I like the lulu mask. I feel the material is thick enough to protect. It took me a couple of time to fit the mask properly (ie tighten the straps). The first time I put it on I had the indentation like yours. I had to pull the strap up higher on my head. Resolved the indentation and lifted the mask off my neck. The mask was snug on my face and comfortable. I just bought two more! Working out with it is good too. I can breathe without it sucking in! I think you had the top strap too low on your head. Try tightening the straps and pull it a little higher to get a better fit.

The mask stayed in place for about 2hrs before I had to readjust.

    1. I will try adjusting the strap so it sits higher on my head. Didn't think that may be the issue! Thanks, and I will update this post if that indeeds fixes the problem. =)

  5. I haven't tried the mask. I wanted to but my bro forgot to order it for me before they sold out and now that I've read more reviews I'll pass! The color is really pretty. I would like a mask that goes around the ears instead of over the head.

    1. Maybe their next mask will have the ear loops. I really wonder why they went with the double strap...

  6. From what I gather you need three layers of fabric (even thin fabric) rather than one, so I'd not be sure this would protect enough. Also I hate the fact people are pulling it down to their throats - it means if there is COVID on the outside of it you're breathing it straight up your nose!

    1. It's definitely not my favorite mask. That said, it's better than nothing. But I do think Lulu can do better.

  7. I had the same problem until I loosened the top strap! So now it fits nicely over my ears and doesn’t indent!

    1. Thanks for letting me know! I need to play around with the straps more.

  8. Just got my back in stock Lululemon mask, I agree about the indent! It’s awful, I look like Eugene from the tv show Preacher! I also tried it on with a plastic nose/mouth guard I have but it looked terrible and was painful. The double straps are a bit awkward on the hair but I don’t mind that so much. I could not blow out a flame, which is always the way I test masks, I would have liked a filter pocket. I don’t think I’ll be buying anymore.
    Might try the athleta one

    1. I still haven't tried adjusting the straps to see if I could get the indent out. =(

Athleta ones are my favorite but there's no filter pocket, at least for the ones I have.

  9. There are two kinds of material used-nulu and ultralu. I have both. Nulu masks are the the ones that gets sucked in.

    1. Interesting, I have the ear loop face mask as well and it also gets sucked in. Which mask doesn't get sucked in?

  10. Does anyone’s nose hurt while wearing lulu mask. My nose hurts a bit and have a little red patch when i wear the mask. Is it common or its just me? I get a little red mark on the area where mask begins.

    1. It didn't happen for me, but I also did not wear it for a very long time. It's just not one of my favorites. Hopefully someone else will be able to comment on it.

  11. Does anyone’s nose hurt while wearing a lulu mask. I got a rash skin on my nose from where the mask starts. I have tried loosing it but it doesn’t help. Its just bit painful.

  12. I had the same issue with the double straps and I bought FOUR of them 😩 And yes the same awful dent. So annoyed, I don't even use them. Will try to do what others have suggested and adjust the straps and see.

  13. I've had these masks for a few months now. I believe the key is to expand the straps as far as it will go. I don't have a giant head, yet that is what I had to do. I've been through quite a bit of masks and these have been the most comfortable as my ears were getting tired of the straps.

We tried HelloFresh for the past two months - Here's our review

Hi everyone! This post is written by my husband. Some of you may know he does all the cooking around here. 😅 We noticed we were spending a lot of money on food and eating out every month and wanted to see if a meal kit service would save us money and time. After looking at a few meal kit services we settled on HelloFresh. Without further ado, here's Jared's review. (Original post date Aug 2022). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ As you may have seen from Leslie's Instagram stories for the past 2 months, we've been using HelloFresh for most of our meals. The main drivers for this were to better track what we eat and because on the advice of my doctor, I should be eating more home cooked meals. Before I go any further, it should be noted that my original career path was in culinary arts, but twists and turns in life changed that. So I do have formal cooking experience. A little background story. Over the years, I've developed
