Fit Review! Athleta Elation Shimmer Tight

Hi everyone. For tonight, I thought I would give you a peak behind the curtain on what goes into this blog and why I only do two reviews a week plus an upload. I have a full time job and my husband and I do a lot of things around the house (including taking care of our three kittens and 19 year old cat). If I didn't have a full time job I could probably write more fit reviews. I used to post something new every other day when I was unemployed and looking for a job.

There's a lot that goes on behind the scenes. I spend a good amount of time browsing the internet for things I might be interested in writing reviews about. Orders get placed and then there's the waiting time for my purchases to arrive. Photo shoots only happen on the weekends because of lighting. The best time for natural lighting are between 9am to 11am and I can't do that while I'm at work. Photos take a long time because I don't have a photographer. I do all the photo taking myself on a make shift tripod. I actually don't even use a real tripod. It's just a chair with a box that I prop my phone on. Which means after each shot I'm running back over to see if the photo is good enough to use on my blog. There is also photo editing. Most of the time it involves cropping and fixing the lighting if it looks too dark. I don't use any Photoshop, as most of the edits I do straight on my phone. After that, the actual writing for each post takes place. I normally write my posts at night and that usually takes me an hour to an hour and a half per post.

I like covering Tuesdays uploads because it gives me an idea of what people are liking or not liking through comments. I always welcome comments because it gives me ideas on what people might be interested for reviews. If people in the comments ask for a fit review on an item that I may not personally be interested in owning, I'll still purchase the item to write a review on it. Otherwise this blog would be solely things that I'm interested in.

So overall, I would say every week I spend maybe 8 to 10 hours working on my blog on average. Half the time I wonder if this is even worth it, but when I read comments that thank me for the reviews because it helps them out, it keeps me going. I'm also not the best writer, I'm not even a good writer but this blog exists because at the end of the day, if my review helps someone, it keeps me going.

Then after I do the fit reviews, on items that I'm not interested in keeping, I have to start the return process which involves re-packing items to send back or schedule time on the weekend to go to the stores. For those that I return through the mail, my husband usually has to drop off all the packages for me at the post office. Which is almost everyday. 😂

Anyway, back to the review! For reference I'm 4 feet 11 and for Athleta bottoms I wear a size Petite XS.

On the Athelta's website there is a fit tip that says to size down for these. There isn't anything smaller than a petite XS but thankfully these still fit. I would say they do run slightly larger than normal and since they run large, there is no compression in these tights. They feel like Lululemon's Aligns. That said, they're super comfortable!

These leggings are made of Powervita fabric which normally feels buttery soft. However since these have a shimmer finish, they actually feel a little scratchy to touch. The inside of the tights feel soft, it's only the outside that's treated with the shimmery finish.

The length of these tights are actually longer than what I expected for petite sizing. As you can see in the photos there's a lot of extra fabric around my ankles. Not terrible but enough that I'm considering getting them hemmed if I keep them.

I couldn't decide between the cinnamon brown and mocha latte, but after seeing the two colors in person, I lean towards the mocha latte because I think it will be easier to pair tops with. The cinnamon brown color has purple undertones. The mocha latte is a great pink/nude that makes it easy to coordinate outfits.

Going back to sizing, if you normally wearing a size 2 in Lululemon bottoms, these might be too big for you in PXS. Maybe the XXS would work. I'm not 100% positive though. Generally I do find the XXS to be smaller than PXS in Athleta.

See? This would make a cute fall outfit.

That's all for me. Hope everyone has a great Monday!

  2. Thank you for sharing with us the story behind the scene! I thought your husband did all the photo shooting and was surprised to hear that you took all pictures by yourself! You’ve done an incredible job, considering you don’t even have a decent tripod!

I’ve only come across your blog for less than a year but I must say it’s one of my favorite ones, and I check it out regularly, You are genuine and humble, and your fit reviews are truly helpful to us petitie girls. Being an animal lover is a bonus lol!

Ive commented before saying that Mocha Latte would suit you better, and I still feel the same after seeing the try-on photos! The outfit on the final picture is really cute! Have you ever tried on the Going Places Jacket? I love mine (bought two colors a couple years ago) and it’s very versatile. You might wanna consider giving it a try if you like long hooded jackets.

Thanks for all the time and effort you’ve put into writing this blog. I truly enjoy each and every post, and love that you do not only share with us your love of clothing and accessories, but also interesting things that happen in your life, as well as stories of your beautiful kittens. You’re like a friend to me.

Keep up the good work, Leslie, and a big thank you to you and your husband! :D

    1. Thanks! I'm mainly a one man show! It's also why I do most of my shoots in my dining room area and not outside in public. My husband isn't the greatest at wielding a camera even with my directions. lol. He tries though...

I took a look at the Going Places Jacket but it's likely too long on me. I think it would probably hit my knees.

You made me go awwww with the friend line. If you're ever in Atlanta, do let me know- we can meet up for coffee/tea/drinks!

    2. Would definitely love to meet you one day, either in the States or in Canada! :)

Looks like the Going Places Jacket is sold out online. What was available earlier might just be last year’s stock. The Pick Your Path Jacket is made with the same light and soft Spacer fabric, and it’s slightly shorter than the Going Places Jacket (don’t think it will hit your knees!). It has more interesting details than the Going Places Jacket, but it just doesn’t work on my boyish figure. Too bad cos it’s very cute in person and I had a hard time letting it go back.

Owing to Thanksgiving holiday, my Ivivva jacket won’t be arriving until next Monday! :(

    3. The Pick Your Path Jacket looks a little more my speed. I do like it in the Heathered Space Dye. Hmmm I might order it to try, at least write a review on. =)

      Ah the waiting game! hehe.

  3. I got those tights in the cinnamon brown color. I love that Athleta has petite sizes. I was wondering what kind of shoes to wear with them (plan to use the tights casually) because none of my shoes looked right with the shimmer. I found some Ugg sneakers called Milo in the fawn color that look good paired with the tights.

Love the last outfit with the big comfy sweater.

    1. Those Uggs look great. I will probably stick to my pink allbirds. I think they work well with the tights.

I wonder if Lululemon will ever release some tights in petite sizes!

  5. I tried on the regular size xs in the store and found the waist and the knees a bit baggy for my taste and of course the ankles were bunched up as well. I like the mocha color best and I also tried on the purplish cinnamon (i might have been swayed if it were more light brown) as well as the black which was more of a steel grey. Overall I didn't feel like I could rock them. The colors look much better on you and the cream sweater combo is great. Thanks for all the hard work (much more than I imagined). I have just found this blog this summer when searching for a werkshop review. Since them I've been catching up. It's difficult to get a sense of how things look proportionally when all the models are 5'10 so I really appreciate getting to see them on you. I also wear a size 4 Lulu but am 5'3 so if I imagine your ankles a bit longer then I get a pretty good idea of how they will look on me

    1. Thank you for reading my blog! I am always happy to see new names commenting. Size XXS might be better for you if the XS was too big. I find these to run larger than usual. Sometimes getting the right fit is what it takes to rock a pair of shimmery tights. =)

Did you end up purchasing a pair of Werkshop leggings?

  6. I love your blog! Thank you for all your hard work, time and effort you put into it. It's the only blog I check out consistently. I love the fit reviews and all the pics you post to show what the clothes look like on a non-model frame. It's really helpful. Keep up the great work and thanks for all you do!

  7. Wow great blog! I was really hoping to see if there was a squat test for the mocha late elation shimmer tight. I just bought three colors and and want to get something cute for underneath and usually gravitate towards black but if it’ll show, gotta go with a lighter color. Do u think it’d show a dark color?

    1. Hi there, these are actually a little see through, I forgot to mention that in the review. Thanks for asking! I would definitely stick with a nude color for underthings.

  8. I love your blog and really appreciate all of the work you put in with your research and reviews! I also appreciate that you give your honest opinion. I really like both colours of tights on you, but agree the lighter colour is probably more versatile. I don't wear leggings often, but do wear a lot of tights and knee lenght dresses which I love to pair with ankle boots, that seems to be the style here in Europe. Keep up the good work!

    1. Thank you Sarah! Sometimes I wish I could find more dresses that are petite friendly. That seems to be the biggest challenge. I would love to wear them to work with some tights and ankle boots!

We tried HelloFresh for the past two months - Here's our review

Hi everyone! This post is written by my husband. Some of you may know he does all the cooking around here. 😅 We noticed we were spending a lot of money on food and eating out every month and wanted to see if a meal kit service would save us money and time. After looking at a few meal kit services we settled on HelloFresh. Without further ado, here's Jared's review. (Original post date Aug 2022). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ As you may have seen from Leslie's Instagram stories for the past 2 months, we've been using HelloFresh for most of our meals. The main drivers for this were to better track what we eat and because on the advice of my doctor, I should be eating more home cooked meals. Before I go any further, it should be noted that my original career path was in culinary arts, but twists and turns in life changed that. So I do have formal cooking experience. A little background story. Over the years, I've developed
