2018 Resolutions and Sherlock Update

First of all I just want to thank everyone who has left a comment for Sherlock. He appreciates all of them! Thank you all for showing support and sending him your thoughts and prayers. 🙏

A couple of weeks ago, I stumbled across this article in the New York Times that basically talks about how this author spends an entire year not shopping. Yup you read that right, no shopping for an entire year. It's a very interesting read. She decided not to purchases any shoes, clothing, purses or jewelry. I honestly don't think I could last that long without purchasing anything for a year. Plus the whole purpose of my blog is to review things I purchase. Thinking it through, while I would definitely want to purchase less considering how much I already have in my closet makes sense. Every year I'm adding more and more so this year I want to be really selective about what I keep. My goal for myself is to only purchase one item per month. This includes clothing, footwear, and purses. I don't normally buy jewelry so I won't ban myself from that. So I can order a bunch of things to try on, but at the end of the month, I'm keeping just one item. The rest of it gets returned.

In the meantime as it's already the 15th of January and I haven't even bought anything to review yet! I'm already doing pretty well on my 2018 goal! Part of the reason I haven't even looked for anything to buy at the moment is because of Sherlock. As some of you already know he's not doing well. A few days ago he started having seizures (around 5 in 24 hours that we know of.) We immediately took him to the ER when we realized what was happening. They put him on anti convulsion medication and hasn't had any more seizures since. The doctors still do not know what's wrong and he has a neurologist appointment tomorrow morning. He's getting an MRI and some other tests.

It was so heartbreaking to see him at the ER with a plastic cone around his head and and an IV in his arm. He was so sad until he realized it was us visiting him. He was definitely happy to see us. He slept in my arms for about 30 minutes.

Sherlock spent two nights at the ER hospital and we finally took him home today. We're happy he's home because we missed him so much. I can't say how worried we are. I don't know if he's going to make it honestly. They think he either has some kind of virus that probably isn't curable or a neurological issue. I'm hoping he'll be okay and that he'll be with us for a long long time. He is just too sweet of a kitten to be going through something like this. He's only 5 months old.

Here he is at home sleeping.

Circling back to 2018 goals, another item I'd like to tackle is culling my closet. I already started going through what I already own and picking out pieces to sell or donate. I just have so many bottoms that I could probably go two months before having to do laundry. Seriously! Tank top and sports bras I don't have nearly as much. My goal is to wear every single bottom I own to determine if the item still works for me or not and that I still love it. If I don't, off it goes to the sell pile or donate pile.

The last goal on my list isn't really a goal, but it's something that I'm pretty excited about. I started a new workout program with Alexia Clark. I strictly workout at home and once in a while I'll hit the treadmill if I feel like doing some cardio. But I would rather just workout at home in my living room. There are a couple of things intrigued me about the Alexia Clark program. Her workouts barely have any jumping involved which is great because I have a bad left knee. Also there is no cardio involved. Meaning no running or anything like that. These workouts are strictly body weight exercises or weights. The equipment I've used so far are resistance bands (mini and full body ones), dumbbells, kettle bells, and a bench. The program is based on 5 workouts a week and you can choose if you're going to the gym or working out at home. Then you choose how much time you have to workout for the day. I always choose the 1 hour option and just do as much as I can. Otherwise you can choose a 30 minute workout.

I started doing her workouts about 2 weeks ago and I already feel a difference. I do plan on taking before and after photos and hopefully in 6 months I can do a full review on this program. In the meantime if you're curious, check out her instagram because she has tons of video clips of exercises she includes in her workouts.

Do you have any goals for this year?

That's all for me at the moment. I hope everyone is having a great week so far!

  3. It's heartbreaking to know your little guy is going through all this. You are very good to him and I'm sure he knows that.

I read your linked article. Very interesting, made me think. I sort of blew it last week buying a sweater, a wristlet, and a three-pack of socks. (But the socks were a replacement for some that did not make it into my package from my post-Christmas Athleta sale order--which they did credit me for.) I'm pretty sure I can avoid shopping for the rest of the month and Frugal February. Then we'll see what happens.

    1. Hi Kathy,

Are you going to try a 2 month ban? Or just seeing how long you can go without buying anything?

    2. I'm going to see how long I can go without buying. We'll see how it goes. (I'm weak.) But for sure I will not buy before March.

  4. I really hope Sherlock's health turns around soon. It's so hard to watch furbabies suffer. My goals for 2018 include taking better care of myself, in the sense that I don't always say yes to things and think more about what I want. On another note, we did go to Jing Fong when we were in NYC and we absolutely LOVED it! Thanks for the tip!

Review! Coach Soft Empire Carryall 40 Merlot

I am super excited about this review! This has been the most anticipated Coach bag since The Rogue came out. At least for me. When I first saw this bag on the purseblog , my eyes widened and I was immediately obsessed. The Soft Empire Carryall comes in four sizes. Size 48 is ridiculously big, I cannot pull it off, but the 40? Perfect. Size 35 and 26 just doesn't give off the same wow factor. This bag is meant to be a statement piece and head turner. Kudos to Stewart Vevers for creating another hit that everyone will be obsessing over for a long time. I hear that more colors will be released soon, and I am hoping the distressed lived-in version will not be exclusive to size 48. In case it doesn't happen, I'll be using my Empire 40 as much as I can to give it a distressed look myself.  For reference I'm 4 feet 11 inches tall and please check out my video to see what fits! Coach Empire 40 Merlot This bag is huge, it's definitely the biggest bag in my collection. ...

Did You Know There Are Two Different Ugg Companies? Review - UGG Lowmel

So I was shocked when I learned a couple of months ago that there are actually two UGG brands. The original UGG since 1974 is the original Australian brand that are made from sheepskin. The other is an American company with the big G uses synthetic fabric and are made in China/Vietnam. Here are the two different logos.  The one the left with the big G in the middle is the company that's made in China/Vietnam. The one on the right is the original UGG since 1974. Each pair is made in Australia! I had no idea and feel so duped. I didn't learn this until after I bought the Lowmel's which are very popular at the moment. But I will order a pair from UGG since 1974 so I can support the original brand. Plus I really want to experience the real thing and I will report back my findings. 😅 That said, I still actually really like the Lowmels. UGG Lowmel Sand   Size Kids 4 I typically wear size 5.5 and I decided to try the kids size 4 which actually fit well, if just a smidge large...

First Impressions! On Cloudmonster Void

Happy Friday! I've been branching out into other brands for footwear. I mentioned in a previous post I just don't think my Allbirds are cutting it anymore. Allbirds are more of a casual walking shoe. Anything over 10K, my feet start to hurt. I have tried Hokas, and they seem to be decent so far, I can walk 12K steps a day and haven't had issues. However, I am loving the On Cloudmoster Void even more! For reference I typically wear size 5.5 in Allbirds which is my normal street size for sneakers and I am also wearing size 5.5 in On Cloudmonster Void. On CloudMonster Void Ivory | Wolf Size 5.5 (Currently on sale for 20% off -  $135) I'm not a huge fan of logos on my shoes. I decided on this colorway because I love the light gray and lilac combo and it does have a big On logo, but it blends in nicely with the colors. It still has a minimalistic vibe.  This shoe has a 6mm heel to toe shoe drop. This is a good height if you're a heel to toe striker which I am. This is...
