My very first handbag purchase was an Icon bag. Icon is actually famous for their shoes, but I saw this Navigator bag on display at Bloomingdales and had to have it. It cost $400 and it was my gift to myself for graduating college. I thought, man that's expensive for a bag but it's like a work of art!

So yes, I still have it in my closet and no I don't use it anymore. Soon after I discovered Balenciaga in 2005 and it's been a on and off love affair ever since. My very first Balenciaga was a pewter first in silver hardware. I wish I still had it. I eventually sold it because it was a little too small for me.

Over the years I've gone through tons of Balenciagas. There are a few that I regret selling. If I ever won the lotto, I would probably spend the money searching for the old and rare Balenciaga bags that pop up on eBay every so often. Specifically the ones released in 2001-2005. Those were the best years! Forget Hermes, Chanels, Guccis and LVs. I'd rather have a closet full of rare Balenciaga bags.
For a while I stopped buying Balenciaga because their prices skyrocketed, like all the other luxury brands and their quality went down. It became oversaturated and the colors became repetitive. Every season they would release a different version of anthracite. They also started using different kinds of leather. Instead of the slouch they were known for, the new bags are very stiff and structured.
This year I started to diversify my handbag collection. My first non Balenciaga purchase was my Gucci Marmont bag. It's the new "it" bag and still somewhat "affordable" as far as premier designers go.
What really drew me to the Gucci Marmont is the nude color. I don't think I would really care for it as much if it wasn't for the nude shade. It's the perfect blush pink neutral.
I also had my eye on this Givenchy pandora bag for a couple of years and finally took the plunge when I saw it on sale. It has a very boho look to it that reminds me of Balenciaga a bit.
Then recently I started crushing on Coach. Which is super surprising for me because for years I disliked the brand so much. I guess it proves that tastes can change. My first Coach purchase was the Swagger 21 with butterflies on it. Then I had my eye on a tea rose bag. I love the pebbled leather and suede lining.
What can I say? I like pretty things. For their fall/winter campaign they released the tea rose bag in this super pretty melon color. I haven't seen it in real life so I can't really decide if I want to add it to my Coach collection or not.
On my wishlist right now is the LV Montaigne in taupe glaze Empreinte leather and hermes kelly! I've sold all my other bags now and the ones that are left in my collection are my fave ones! Chanel rectangular mini, small antigona, neverfull mm and my first bag, speedy 25!
ReplyDeleteThe only LV I have is a Speedy 30, I never use her. But she's a classic so she will stay. I also have a LV pochette that's super cute from the evasion line. I go back and forth on Hermes. Not that I'll ever have that kind of cash to blow! Looking at their two most popular bags, I prefer the look of the Kelly, but I think the Birkin seems more functional. Sometimes I think about selling my one and only Chanel but I know I'll never be able to afford another one since the prices keep increasing, so she'll probably stay too!
DeleteI love your Gucci Marmont Nude with the Fendi charm! It is soooo cute! The Coach tea rose is super pretty too! I love seeing your outfits paired with bags too!
ReplyDeleteI have my good ole Burberry tote that I use every day and a MK tote that sadly is never used. I love Burberry because "it has horsies on it" - what my growing up horseback riding self loved. :) I've been eyeing their Small Banner bag because I think I want a smaller every day bag and it's cute to me! I want a bear bag charm too... :)
Btw - did you see LV has a Shiba bag charm now? Unfortunately personally I don't think it's cute and there's tons of Shiba Inu bag charms out there way cuter.
Happy National Handbag Day!
The Burberry bear charms are super cute. I love the pink one they had. Not sure if they still have it, it was a couple of years ago.
DeleteI looked up the LV Shiba, definitely not as cute as it could have been. They missed the mark. Definitely cuter ones out there. Not worth the $330!
