My Birthday Weekend!

It was my birthday weekend, but I'll probably extend it to the rest of the month! Because, why not? It'll be Valentine's Day (which we don't celebrate) but I'll include it just because. Lunar New Year is in 8 days, which I do celebrate and I'm definitely taking off work as a personal day.

Some of you may know I am a big Harry Potter fan and every year the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO) will play a Harry Potter movie. It's almost always around my birthday. This has been a yearly tradition for us since 2018 which was when we saw the very first Harry Potter movie with the ASO. We have gone every year since and this year was the final movie of the series, The Deathly Hallows Part 2. It took us 9 years instead of 8 because of Covid in 2020. Everything was cancelled that year. I hope they restart the series next year. I will totally do it all over again! It was so much fun.

I would see this lovely couple at the show every time. Mad Eye Moody and Professor McGonagall!

Before the show, we had dinner at Boqueria, and they have the best churros I've ever had in my life.

When I got home from the show, a very special package was left at the doorstep. Some of you may know I am also a die hard Cure fan. I've been a Cure fan since 1994, and I had such a crush on Robert Smith back in the day, I still kinda do! I got to meet him once at Tower Records (I miss that place and the 90s so much it's not even funny) on Halloween in 1997, which is so fitting and he signed a photo and a CD for me. This was when Galore was released. My memory is pretty much shot, but I remember all things when it comes to The Cure and Robert Smith. Anyhow, a few weeks ago, I bought two raffle tickets that went to Heart Research UK (a non-profit charity in the UK that funds medical research to cure heart disease) for a chance to win a signed print by Robert Smith.

The Cure released their latest album in 2024 called Songs of A Lost World (SOALW) and it was their first album in 16 years. My grandma had passed away in the summer of 2024 and SOALW dropped November 1st. It couldn't have happened at a more ideal time. The new album gave me the distraction I needed, but it also helped me grieve. I'm not even kidding that The Cure has been the perfect soundtrack to my entire life. SOALW deals with death, grief, and facing your mortality. I won't bore you with all the details that no one asked for, but Alone and Endsong are the two songs that spoke to me the most. The first time I listened to Alone I cried from the lyrics (they also won a grammy for Alone - Best Alternative Music Performance). They also won Best Alternative Music Album for SOALW.

Endsong is by far my favorite song on the album and Robert Smith also created artwork for each song. Endsong is the one shown below. He's been donating his signed prints to Heart Research UK for a while now. I am not 100% sure why he does this, but my guess is that one of his family members, likely his brother passed away from heart disease. For this print to arrive on my birthday, really made it extra special. I've ordered a frame and can't wait to hang this up in my studio.

Jared took me to Aria for my birthday (the very first photo in this post) and it was soooo good. We've gone to Aria about 8 or 9 times now and every time has been amazing. It's definitely one of our favorite restaurants in Atlanta. I know you're wondering, what did Jared get me for my birthday? He actually hasn't yet! He's waiting for me to decide if I want this chair from Crate and Barrel or a purse. The purse has to be equivalent to the same price as this chair. It's actually a nursing chair, but honestly one of the most comfortable chairs I have ever sat in. I could fall asleep in it, it's that comfy.

So, a new bag or this chair? I'm not gonna lie, I'm leaning towards this chair! What would you pick? And if anyone was wondering, I am going to return the Banana Republic suede jacket. My purchases for clothing this year is back to zero. That's it for me, hope you all have a wonderful start to a brand new week!

  1. It looks like you had a great birthday weekend, and I'm glad you're going to continue to celebrate!

I love that you went to Harry Potter in Concert! The local symphony where I live has been doing Star Wars in Concert for the last few years - I've gone to two out of three of the original trilogy so far. It's so much fun!

My vote is definitely for the chair!

    1. Hi Lola! Any excuse to celebrate haha. I am wondering if they will do Star Wars in Concert next! Jared is a huge Star Wars fan and I know he would love it.

Thanks! I am leaning towards the chair too. 😅

  3. I'll be honest, that chair looks kind of funny, and it also looks like it would make a lovely cat-scratching post, if your cats do that! lol

    1. Haha, I can see that, the fabric feels more like a teddy bear, very soft. I am wondering if the cats will want to scratch it as they usually do everything, but we are debating if the bedroom will be off limits (it is where the chair will go if I get it).

  5. Happy birthday, Leslie! The food at Aria looks delicious! It's inspiring me to make sea scallops for Valentines! The nursing chair looks very cozy. I think getting a special piece of furniture that both of you can enjoy is more meaningful than another nice bag.

    I vote chair too :)

Did You Know There Are Two Different Ugg Companies? Review - UGG Lowmel

So I was shocked when I learned a couple of months ago that there are actually two UGG brands. The original UGG since 1974 is the original Australian brand that are made from sheepskin. The other is an American company with the big G uses synthetic fabric and are made in China/Vietnam. Here are the two different logos.  The one the left with the big G in the middle is the company that's made in China/Vietnam. The one on the right is the original UGG since 1974. Each pair is made in Australia! I had no idea and feel so duped. I didn't learn this until after I bought the Lowmel's which are very popular at the moment. But I will order a pair from UGG since 1974 so I can support the original brand. Plus I really want to experience the real thing and I will report back my findings. 😅 That said, I still actually really like the Lowmels. UGG Lowmel Sand   Size Kids 4 I typically wear size 5.5 and I decided to try the kids size 4 which actually fit well, if just a smidge large...

First Impressions! On Cloudmonster Void

Happy Friday! I've been branching out into other brands for footwear. I mentioned in a previous post I just don't think my Allbirds are cutting it anymore. Allbirds are more of a casual walking shoe. Anything over 10K, my feet start to hurt. I have tried Hokas, and they seem to be decent so far, I can walk 12K steps a day and haven't had issues. However, I am loving the On Cloudmoster Void even more! For reference I typically wear size 5.5 in Allbirds which is my normal street size for sneakers and I am also wearing size 5.5 in On Cloudmonster Void. On CloudMonster Void Ivory | Wolf Size 5.5 (Currently on sale for 20% off -  $135) I'm not a huge fan of logos on my shoes. I decided on this colorway because I love the light gray and lilac combo and it does have a big On logo, but it blends in nicely with the colors. It still has a minimalistic vibe.  This shoe has a 6mm heel to toe shoe drop. This is a good height if you're a heel to toe striker which I am. This is...

Review! Coach Soft Empire Carryall 40 Merlot

I am super excited about this review! This has been the most anticipated Coach bag since The Rogue came out. At least for me. When I first saw this bag on the purseblog , my eyes widened and I was immediately obsessed. The Soft Empire Carryall comes in four sizes. Size 48 is ridiculously big, I cannot pull it off, but the 40? Perfect. Size 35 and 26 just doesn't give off the same wow factor. This bag is meant to be a statement piece and head turner. Kudos to Stewart Vevers for creating another hit that everyone will be obsessing over for a long time. I hear that more colors will be released soon, and I am hoping the distressed lived-in version will not be exclusive to size 48. In case it doesn't happen, I'll be using my Empire 40 as much as I can to give it a distressed look myself.  For reference I'm 4 feet 11 inches tall and please check out my video to see what fits! Coach Empire 40 Merlot This bag is huge, it's definitely the biggest bag in my collection. ...
