Fit Review Friday! Quince - Is this brand really worth the hype? Mongolian Fisherman Cashmere Boxy Cropped Cardigan, Linen Camp Shirt, Linen Long Sleeve Shirt, Linen Pants
Happy Friday! This is the fit review you've all been waiting for. It's a long one, so you may want to grab a drink and get comfortable. All summer long my Instagram has been inundated with Quince ads. I did browse the site a few times, but I always thought the lengths of the tops were too long and not petite friendly, which put me off. But my curiosity finally won and I had to find out if Quince is worth the hype. I decided to try a few linen pieces and one cashmere sweater. I also ordered a suede bag, to be reviewed in a future post.
For reference I'm 4 feet 11 inches tall and wearing XS/S in Quince. I typically wear size 4/6 or XS/S in Lululemon and size PXS in Athleta.
First I need to mention the shipping issues I had with my order. Quince uses Veho as their shipper, and they are the worst couriers I've ever dealt with. Lululemon tried Veho for a few months and ended up switching back to FedEx, I assume because they just weren't good. My order of five items, were sent out in three different packages. Only one of those packages arrived (the cashmere sweater). The other two packages were marked as delivered and the photo taken by the courier showed they left the packages outside of my complex. They could not figure out how to get in. There are a few ways to get inside my complex. The easiest way is to use the call box and look my name up in the directory. It goes straight to my cell phone and I can buzz them through the gate. As soon as I saw the email with the photo (within 10 minutes of delivery), I ran downstairs to get the packages. They were already gone. Someone just walked by and stole them. I contacted customer support and was told that they would resend my missing items out to me, but it would be the only time they would do so. This does not sit well with me and because of this, I told them I will never place another order with Quince as long as they keep using Veho. The second attempt did make it to me. The delivery driver used the call box and I buzzed them in. I wouldn't be surprised if the first delivery driver just snapped the photo and kept the packages for themselves. So, after that whole debacle, it put a slight damper on my order. Quince was not off to a great start.
But was it really considered delivered if the packages never made it inside my building?
First impressions of Quince linen
Their linen feels like it's a sort of blend. It doesn't feel like Banana Republic or Athleta linen. I am not a linen expert by any means, and I know there are many different kinds of linen but Quince linen feels smoother not quite as textured. It does feel soft to the touch. Although, their linen pants did not feel as soft. The pants felt thinner, and a little scratchy. More on the pants later in this post.
I'm wearing size XS in this short sleeve top and the fit is oversized, and not petite friendly at all which is what I had expected judging from the photos on their website. The models on the website are probably all 5 foot 10 inches tall and everything looks great on them, but for someone nearly a foot shorter, the tops are quite long in length. Maybe I could use this as a beach/pool coverup, if I actually went to the beach/pool. 😂
Next up, we have the long sleeve version. This is the shirt that was all over my Instagram feed. The price is amazing, I will give it that. This top is only $39.90. 😲
I'm wearing size XS and when I wear it buttoned up, it's a little too snug in the shoulders for me. It was more comfortable to wear it open. I would recommend sizing up if you want to wear it closed.
The length again, feels a little too long in the back. I'm sure not a lot of people will have this issue, probably just those who are my height and shorter.
The sleeves were actually okay in length. I have them rolled up as I normally do when I wear these tops, but the sleeves were not overly long. Which makes me wonder if they are too short for the taller folks.
I really don't like that dip in the curved hem. It drags the eyes down and the shirt just looks even longer on me.
In this photo I am trying to show a pretty large snag on the sleeve. Possible quality issues?
100% European Linen Pants Deep Navy Size Small
Back to the linen pants. They are just not very flattering, they taper in a weird way that makes me look shorter. I am in between sizes according to their size chart in pants. I sized up to be safe. I did not like how these pants looked at all. From the side, they look very casual and comfortable.
I'm not a fan of how the front pockets look. It makes the top portion of the pants look sloppy. The waistband was fairly comfortable. The feel of the linen on the pants are not as soft as their tops. They're more textured, more wrinkly and slightly scratchy. The length measures 24 inches and they hit right at my ankles.
Here is the main reason I cannot recommend these pants. If you find the tags on the back of your shirts annoying, you won't like these pants either. The seams going down these pants are not double stitched. Meaning you can feel the inside of the unfinished seam running down the pant legs and it was irritating my skin. This is where Quince really shows how they cut corners to keep their prices low. You'll notice both of the linen shirts do not have any front pockets. The linen pants are my least favorite item from the entire order.
I saved the best item for last. The cashmere cardigan is the only item I will be keeping. It feels soft, but again, it almost feels like it's a blend. It seems well made. You'll notice there are no pockets on this cardigan as well. Since I do wear cashmere quite often, I decided to keep this to see how it wears in the long run. I'm curious to see how it compares to my Naked Cashmere pieces.
I'm wearing size XS and the fit is boxy as expected. Even though it is called Boxy Cropped Cardigan, it is not very cropped at all. That's a plus! The length is actually quite nice.
The cashmere feels mid-weight. Quince really keeps the details to a minimum. There isn't anything that stands out about any of these pieces. I'll admit the cardigan does look cute partially tucked into my jeans.
Conclusion
Is it fast fashion? Yes.
Is it overhyped? Yes.
Is it worth the money? I think that's very subjective. I would say you're getting what you pay for. I'll admit the linen top at $39.95 is a good deal if it fits you. Quince is definitely not petite friendly. The linen pants are not worth it at all. The cashmere? Yes, if you're willing to let go the need for pockets. Their cashmere is priced at $119.90 which is very low compared to Naked Cashmere. Will I be ordering from Quince again? Doubtful. Mainly beause of the terrible shipping experience with Veho. However, if there is something that REALLY catches me eye and I'm just dying to see it in person, I probably will consider placing an order. Stay tuned because I will have a review of their suede bag coming up! My Quince review is not over yet.
That's it for me! I hope you all enjoyed my honest review of Quince. Do you love Quince? Which pieces? What's your experience witth Quince? Do tell!

Hmmm, I'm not impressed with the way Quince handled your lost delivery. I'm glad they eventually sent out replacements, but the email they sent you seems kind of snarky, in my opinion. It's not your fault that the delivery service they used was incompetent. Anyway, I'm glad you returned most of the stuff. Aside from the cardigan, the pieces didn't look too great.
ReplyDeleteHi Lola! Agreed, not impressed either with their customer service, I'm pretty sure I won't be ordering from them again. It left a bad taste in my mouth.
