Fit Review Friday! Athleta Coaster Luxe High Rise Jogger and J.Crew Petite Stowe Parka Italian Stadium Cloth

First Fit Review Friday of the new year! Before I get into the review, if you're joining me on No Buy January, how is your challenge going? Not gonna lie, the first day was rough. I walked around Avalon trying to get my steps (an outdoor shopping mixed used space) and went into Anthropologie not expecting to really like anything I saw. Turns out, I was very wrong. They now offer Varley in their stores and it's a brand I've seen on Instagram, but never really looked at too closely. When I touched their DoubleSoft fabric, I almost broke my ban right then and there. I did do a try-on and will have that review coming soon. Varley may be the new Vuori for me. I may be a little obsessed already. But I'm holding off until February! I gotta stay strong it's only the first week for crying out loud! 😂 Has anyone here tried Varley? Any thoughts?

Today's review is a little bit of this and a little bit of that. My Athleta order is mostly on back order. 😆 I have three pairs of joggers that are coming who knows when. In December I decided I needed one adult coat in my closet, as all of my coats and jackets are puffers or fleece and neither of those are very grown up. I definitely do not dress like I'm in my 40s. I looked at a bunch of brands and decided on J.Crew. I've had a few J.Crew coats in the past, and loved the quality and the look, but the shoulders were always just slightly too tight so I eventually re-homed them. I decided to give them another try with it in mind to size up to accommodate for tight shoulders. Plus, all the coats were on sale!

For reference I'm 4 feet 11 inches tall and typically wear size Petite XS in Athleta. I also wear size 4/6 in Lululemon. For J.Crew I am wearing size 2 Petite in this coat.

This J.Crew parka gets 4.1 stars from petites and 4.8 stars from the regular folks. After reading all the reviews, I went with size 2 petite. Most of the reviews mentioned the shoulders and arms being roomy. I am able to wear a sweater underneath without any issues. This coat features a zipper closure and snaps if you wanted to be extra fancy.

This coat is made of 80% wool and 20% polyamide. What is polyamide? I had to Google this myself. It's a synthetic similar to nylon which is a common plastic. Not the greatest, but this parka did feel substantial in weight. I would say it's on the heavier side of medium. It is lined with what feels like silk.

The hood is removable which is always a great option. I do love the chocolate corduroy collar. I think that's a very nice detail that sets it apart. There is a vent/flap at the back of the coat. I haven't decided if I want to leave it stitched or open it up. What do you all do?

The sleeves are actually a perfect length for me! I should have taken a photo to show you all, but it literally ends right after my wrist. It's amazing that J.Crew petites actually has it right! This is why I went with J.Crew. They're always really good with petite proportions. The length hits exactly at my knees.

I'm super happy that I now have an adult coat. 😅 It'll go really nicely with a lot my brown colored bags.

Next up, the Coaster Luxe HR Jogger. This is my second pair. They're really soft and very comfortable. I like to wear these when my Vuori Performance Joggers are too thin and I need something warmer.

I'm wearing my usual size Petite XS and they are true to size. They are baggier around the upper thigh and then they taper down to the ankles. Length measures 25.5" long which is perfect for me.

These are great for lounging around the house and sometimes I'll even wear them out if I'm running errands.

Overall, I do think they're worth the price if you can get them on sale. They have a ton of colors to choose from! These joggers may end up being my favorites for colder temperatures. If I were to get another pair, I would probably go for the Charcoal Gray Heather.

That's it for me! I have a special post for Monday. I'll be covering my top 5 most used bags for 2024. It's a pretty good mix! Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

  1. I love Varley! I have their very popular vine pullover, and recently got one of their pieces from Nordstrom, the Carmen rib knit zip in dark olive. I love their option for pieces (sweaters) that are a bit more dressy than athleisure.

    1. Hi Melody! Good to know. I took a look at their sweaters but a lot of them look like them run large. Also a lot of pullovers which I don't wear as much. I get too hot. But their pants and joggers come in 25 inch length, so I need to try them! But agree, they look to be more dressy than say Lulu/Athleta/and Vuori, so I'm definitely interested in elevating my look! Especially if it's comfy.

    2. Oh I didn’t know there were 2 lengths in those pants! Beyond Yoga was at REI. Not sure if there’s REI in your state. But check them out online if not

    3. Ohhhh REI! Okay I think there is one. I'll take a look!

  2. That’s a beautiful wool coat. I miss some of the wool coats I had in my past. In the last several years, especially since Covid, my style has become much more casual. I’m not sure my current lifestyle warrants a coat like that, but I’m glad to know that style is still available. Looks fabulous on you.

    1. Hi there! Thanks so much! I think this one is still fairly casual for a wool coat. I don't dress up much, but can see myself wearing it with jeans.

  3. Love the coat and the contrasting colored collar! Perfect length on sleeve and body!

  4. Leslie, I went straight to anthro after reading your post. They didn’t have a huge selection of varley ( which btw I’ve never heard of until reading it on your post) . They had the quarter zip sweat shirt which fit a bit oversized on me in the xs but I didn’t find the slim joggers to be petite friendly. I had to fold the top of the waistband over. They also had a very long plain sweatshirt which looked way too long for me. I also got to feel the fabric of the Beyond Yoga pieces at REI and I’d say they rival vuori for the softness and quality. Can’t wait to see your varley fit review. And happy new year! Cindy

    1. Hi Cindy! The Varley pants I tried on had a 25 inch inseam. I'm guessing the ones you tried were 27.5 inches long? The 25 inch was perfect on me. They were HR too. I haven't tried Beyond Yoga. I'll have to see if Anthro has it next time I go!

      Happy New Year!

  5. Leslie I’m seeing a few interesting items on athleta. Like the seasoft 1/4 zip and the waffle hoodie. I just love waffle fabric. Hope you can do a try on for those items! Cindy

    1. Hi Cindy! I did do a try on for the Seasoft Quarter zip a couple of years ago, I didn't love the look on me. Here's the review.

I'll add the Waffle hoodie to the list for a try on, I did try the waffle knit jogger and didn't love the waffle texture, I could feel it on the inside and it made me itchy.

Review! Coach Soft Empire Carryall 40 Merlot

I am super excited about this review! This has been the most anticipated Coach bag since The Rogue came out. At least for me. When I first saw this bag on the purseblog , my eyes widened and I was immediately obsessed. The Soft Empire Carryall comes in four sizes. Size 48 is ridiculously big, I cannot pull it off, but the 40? Perfect. Size 35 and 26 just doesn't give off the same wow factor. This bag is meant to be a statement piece and head turner. Kudos to Stewart Vevers for creating another hit that everyone will be obsessing over for a long time. I hear that more colors will be released soon, and I am hoping the distressed lived-in version will not be exclusive to size 48. In case it doesn't happen, I'll be using my Empire 40 as much as I can to give it a distressed look myself.  For reference I'm 4 feet 11 inches tall and please check out my video to see what fits! Coach Empire 40 Merlot This bag is huge, it's definitely the biggest bag in my collection. ...

Did You Know There Are Two Different Ugg Companies? Review - UGG Lowmel

So I was shocked when I learned a couple of months ago that there are actually two UGG brands. The original UGG since 1974 is the original Australian brand that are made from sheepskin. The other is an American company with the big G uses synthetic fabric and are made in China/Vietnam. Here are the two different logos.  The one the left with the big G in the middle is the company that's made in China/Vietnam. The one on the right is the original UGG since 1974. Each pair is made in Australia! I had no idea and feel so duped. I didn't learn this until after I bought the Lowmel's which are very popular at the moment. But I will order a pair from UGG since 1974 so I can support the original brand. Plus I really want to experience the real thing and I will report back my findings. 😅 That said, I still actually really like the Lowmels. UGG Lowmel Sand   Size Kids 4 I typically wear size 5.5 and I decided to try the kids size 4 which actually fit well, if just a smidge large...

First Impressions! On Cloudmonster Void

Happy Friday! I've been branching out into other brands for footwear. I mentioned in a previous post I just don't think my Allbirds are cutting it anymore. Allbirds are more of a casual walking shoe. Anything over 10K, my feet start to hurt. I have tried Hokas, and they seem to be decent so far, I can walk 12K steps a day and haven't had issues. However, I am loving the On Cloudmoster Void even more! For reference I typically wear size 5.5 in Allbirds which is my normal street size for sneakers and I am also wearing size 5.5 in On Cloudmonster Void. On CloudMonster Void Ivory | Wolf Size 5.5 (Currently on sale for 20% off -  $135) I'm not a huge fan of logos on my shoes. I decided on this colorway because I love the light gray and lilac combo and it does have a big On logo, but it blends in nicely with the colors. It still has a minimalistic vibe.  This shoe has a 6mm heel to toe shoe drop. This is a good height if you're a heel to toe striker which I am. This is...
