Review Philips Somneo Sunrise and Sunset Alarm Clock

Happy Friday everyone! This one isn't a Fit Friday Review because of how busy things have been with Sherlock going to the vet and neurologist appointments and just basically spending time with him. I haven't even been able to go to the mall the past few weekends so today I have for you a review of this Philips Somneo Sunrise Wake Up and Sleep Therapy Light.

First off, I am NOT a morning person. I don't think I can state that enough. I'm the type of person that will sleep until noon if I could. Every. Single. Day. I'd rather go to bed at 4 am then wake up at 4 am. Basically I'm a night owl. If I'm in bed earlier than midnight, it means I'm super tired and that's almost never.

Before my husband purchased this Philips Somneo Sunrise Wake Up and Sleep Therapy Light alarm clock for me I would use my iPhone to wake up. My ringtone would go off super loud and it would scare the bejesus out of me. I have my alarm clock set at 6:45 am every weekday morning. In the dead of winter with sunrise no where in site, I'm in hibernation mode. (Atlanta sunrise at the moment is 7:37 am.) As soon as the alarm goes off, I hit the snooze button and then rinse and repeat about three more times before I finally drag my tired butt out of bed. I am never one of those people that wake up refreshed and ready for the day. I'm one of those kids you see on TV that cries as soon as you have to wake them up for school. Seriously. Waking up early in the morning is the worst part of the day for me.

Then enter this sunny alarm clock. I have it set for 7am during the week. It really does simulate a sunrise. It starts about 30 minutes before your set time and it slowly brightens up your room from a red orange to sunny yellow. By the time 7 am rolls around I'm already kind of awake. It's a slow wake up instead of a jarring one. The alarm sound I chose to wake up to is Birds in the Forest. It's soft chirping which I don't really like, but it's the least annoying one to me. There are seven different sounds to choose from that are all nature themed.

There are other similar alarm clocks that are much cheaper than the Somneo version like this one. The one major drawback of the cheaper version is the inability to completely dim the front clock panel. If you're highly sensitive to any light while falling asleep, the Somneo is the one you want. My husband needs the bedroom to be pitch black otherwise he has a hard time falling asleep. I secretly call him Princess and the pea because of how picky he is about sleeping. Sometimes I'll call him Goldilocks too. 😂

I've been using the Somneo for two weeks now and it's amazing. I wouldn't say I'm a morning person now, but I'm definitely finding it easier to get out of bed. There is one thing I wish the alarm clock could do. Once you press the button to turn off the sound of birds chirping, the screen also turns off which leaves me in a dark room once again. I would have liked to leave the sunny light going for a little while longer so I'm not tempted to crawl back into bed.

Another thing I really like about the Somneo is the sunset simulator. You can set the timer in increments of 5 minutes. I like setting at 15 or 20 minutes so it can slowly put my body and mind into sleep mode. The light glows from a sunny yellow to an orange red and then turns off by itself. It's actually very peaceful.

One more thing worth mentioning. The alarm is either on or off. There is no weekday setting that my iPhone has. Which means you have to remember to turn off the alarm on the weekends if you don't want to wake up at your weekday hours. The sunset simulator is also something that you have to manually do every night if you want it.

Other than that I really like this alarm clock! It's very much worth it if you're not a morning person like me.

That's all for me. Let me know if you enjoyed this review!

  1. Neat clock. I have a question about the werkshop crops. Do they all fit the same way on you? I'm normally a 2 in lulu pants, so should i try xs in werkshop?

    Thanks

    1. definitely get size xs if you're a 2! I am a size 6-8 in lulu and needed a medium. 4-6 lulu fits werkshop S.

    2. Cindy- Yes the Werkshop crops all fit the same way on me. I get the size small because I'm a size 4 in Lulu. But Werkshops leggings are compressive. It depends if you like that feel. But I do think you are mostly likely a size XS in Werkshop.

    3. Thank you both for your input. Do you ever plan to come to Vancouver to do the seawheeze?

    4. I'm not really a runner. I have a bad left knee. Last year I trained for a 10K and after I finished my knees were definitely sore. These days I stick to circuit training mainly. Do you run seawheeze?

  2. I’ve run 7 half and one full marathons before but never the seawheeze. The popularity of it turns me off a little but I do love it when all the gear is launched. I’ve fallen off the wagon when it comes to running so I don’t know if I’ll ever get to do the seawheeze. I only do short runs now, 7km at the most when I do get out. It’s almost like I have to keep running to use all the running clothes and gear I’ve bought 🙄. I do mostly beach body videos and go to yoga and spinning classes nowadays. I started doing some yoga with Adriene videos at home too. Have you done her videos? Anyway, I can’t justify lulu purchases if I’mworking out and home. When I go to yoga classes I look at other people’s cute outfits and it tempts me to shop online! I’ve weaned myself off the lulu site but since I’ve discovered your blog I’m addicted again. A couple of other sites that I window shop on is tonic yoga and halfmoon yoga (mostly for gear not clothing).

    1. Also, I have to admit when I read some of the bad reviews on the lulu products it makes me think twice. I try to limit myself to the wmtm section only. My husband always makes fun of me. He likes to say, “they made too much again?!?😮”

    2. Just out of curiosity, how did you come across my blog?
I mainly wear Speed Shorts for running and I have a few crops too. Sometimes I wear Werkshop to run in, but I can also wear all of it for circuit training as well. And honestly I am one of those people that workout at home, but the new gear keeps me motivated. But I also wear a lot of my workout clothes as casual weekend clothes if I find it comfortable enough to do so.

I have not done Adriene videos. I started out with Zwow, aka Zuzka Light for 4 years. Then I moved on to BBG for about a year. Now I just started working out with Alexia Clarke with her online videos.

I have so much workout clothes I tend to be very picky now with what I buy. So at least I'm buying less and less every year!

  3. I think I was googling the scuba hoodie to see how it fit on other people when I saw your review of the scuba III vs IV post. That’s how I stumbled upon your blog. What a perfect blog for me to follow. Lululemon x petite person. I love your fit reviews. I follow extra petites blog too because I love fashion but I never dress like that because I don’t have an office job. And I have kids. So it’s not practical whereas your blog I can relate to more.

    1. Ah, and what do you think about the Scuba III vs IV?

I also follow extra petite and wendys lookbook too. Extra petite is a little too business-y for me, and Wendy I really like, but I could never pull off her outfits. She has some skills there. I also like SongofStyle. She's probably the one that I can relate to most, outfit wise. Very casual yet chic!

    2. It amazes me how Jean manages to look tall in her pics. Wendy is just out of my league. Especially budget wise. I think you are so right about the scuba IV looking like a knock off. With what they did to the logo, the hoody is no longer special. There's a hoody at costco which it looks like now for $25. I wish I had discovered the press pause hoodie before all the small sizes sold out. The speed shorts are my fav for running too and I absolutely love the essential tank. Have you seen the upload for the 2 new colors yet? As for the speed shorts, I love the 2 way stretch material which they haven't made in a long time ,way more than the 4 way, and that's why I haven't bought any in a while. The 4 way just seems cheaper and flimsier although softer and lighter. I don't need loose fitting shorts to be stretchy. Does it rain much in Atlanta. I don't think I've seen you review long rain coats. We're in a westcoast rainforest :(

    3. Jean is super thin and if you bring the camera low, like waist level, it makes us shorties look taller.

I can't really bring myself to spend full price on a Scuba Hoodie now. I have one Scuba Hoodie IV and I think that will probably be my only one.

I did see the new Essential Tank colors. The light colors tend to wash me out so I can pass for now. I hope to see more colors soon.

I do like the Speed Up Short. It's growing on me! I will totally buy more if they come out with more fun prints.

It really doesn't rain much in Atlanta, and we tend to drive everywhere, so there's not much of a need for umbrellas even. So I do not own a rain jacket at all...

Review! Coach Soft Empire Carryall 40 Merlot

I am super excited about this review! This has been the most anticipated Coach bag since The Rogue came out. At least for me. When I first saw this bag on the purseblog , my eyes widened and I was immediately obsessed. The Soft Empire Carryall comes in four sizes. Size 48 is ridiculously big, I cannot pull it off, but the 40? Perfect. Size 35 and 26 just doesn't give off the same wow factor. This bag is meant to be a statement piece and head turner. Kudos to Stewart Vevers for creating another hit that everyone will be obsessing over for a long time. I hear that more colors will be released soon, and I am hoping the distressed lived-in version will not be exclusive to size 48. In case it doesn't happen, I'll be using my Empire 40 as much as I can to give it a distressed look myself.  For reference I'm 4 feet 11 inches tall and please check out my video to see what fits! Coach Empire 40 Merlot This bag is huge, it's definitely the biggest bag in my collection. ...

Review! Balenciaga Rodeo Bag Size Small Plus Video

You all know I love my bags, and as a Balenciaga collector, I don't often stray from the City and First style. The Rodeo (pronounced like Rodeo Drive) really caught my eye. It gives off a slouchy Hermes Kelly vibe, but way more practical to use.  For reference I'm 4 feet 11 inches tall. Balenciaga Rodeo Bag Small The Rodeo can be carried a few ways. It comes with a crossbody strap that is not adjustable but it is removable. Not sure why anyone wouldn't add a few extra holes to make a strap adjustable these days. Come on Balenciaga! Do better! The top handle is a bit too long for this to work anyhow, I feel like the top handle gets in the way. It sticks out and doesn't sit well in my opinion. I wouldn't carry this bag crossbody unless it was an unforeseen emergency and I really needed my hands free. This bag looks more chic carried by the handle or crook of the arm. It also looks nice left open with the help of the flap tucked in. The Rodeo resembles the Kelly bag ...

Review! Lululemon's Large Everywhere Belt Bag Size Comparison Plus Video!

Happy Friday! I can't believe it's almost Halloween! I actually have a dentist appointment on Halloween. One of my molars chipped and needs to be filled in. It's a tiny chip that I didn't even notice until my dentist pointed it out to me during my last visit. I'm not looking forward to it at all since I will need local anesthesia. Anyway, today I have a belt bag size comparison review for you all! For reference I'm 4 feet 11 inches tall and typically wear size 4 in Lululemon tops and bottoms.
