Hope everyone had a great weekend! Here's a recap of my trip to Boston. Here's a little background story- before I got married, I lived in New York and my husband lived in Boston. So for three years we did the long distance thing. Every other week one of us would travel to see the other. After we got married I quit my job in New York and moved to Boston so we could be together. We came to the conclusion that a 600 square foot apartment for two adults and one cat was a bit cramped to say the least. I really didn't have anywhere to put my stuff. My husband reeeeeally misses Boston for a whole bunch of reasons, but housing affordability is not one of them.
Boston is super walkable and beautiful. One of our favorite things was to walk from his apartment to our favorite restaurants. We would do it during the fall/spring weather and cool summer nights. Lots of memories just walking hand in hand for hours. Like I said, while in Boston we walked about 9 miles a day.
This is actually an amazing mural.
We also really miss the water.
The main reason we went back to Boston last month was for the food. Atlanta is awesome in many ways, but the food really doesn't come close to what we were used to in Boston. One of the places on my list to try but we never got around to while we lived there was Neptune. People raved about it left and right. So I was really excited to finally go. The restaurant opened at 11:30 and when we got there, at 11 am, there was already a pretty long line.
$32 Lobster roll.
We ordered a buttered lobster roll. For $32, it came with a ton of huge chunks of lobster meat. More than I've ever had before. BUT the taste was lacking. I thought it was really bland. For comparison, I used to go to Luke's Lobster in NYC - the one on across the street from my office and ordered their lobster roll for $17. I would easily rather get 2 of those for $34, then pay $32 at Neptune. Luke's lobster had much better taste, but much less lobster meat.
Their clam chowder was also very thin and watery. Not impressed!
That same night we went to Uni, our favorite restaurant ever. When my husband and I first started dating in 2012, I would take Amtrak to Boston after I got out of work on Fridays. Sometimes if there was a delay, I wouldn't get there until 10 pm or later. Uni was one of the few places that served late night ramen. We pretty much went there a couple of times a month and we turned into regulars. Eventually they expanded into a larger space and started offering more items. The Spoon is one of my favorite things to eat, period. When we arrived, they took us back to the kitchen so we could say hello to Chef Tony Messina. It was really nice to see a couple of familiar faces.
The Spoon. It's like rainbows and stars in your mouth.
The only thing I really had to have was The Spoon. After that we told them they could feed us whatever they wanted. And this is what happened.
Burrito
The next day we went to El Pelon near Fenway. We used to walk to the one Brighton all the time but the one near Fenway is the only location that serves Chimichangas. They are the best Chimichangas ever.
Chimichangas hiding under all the green.
That night we went to Momi Nonmi located in Cambridge. They mostly serve small tapas dishes and the space is small but very cute and cozy. The food was delicious and would definitely recommend it.
There was only a couple of places left on our hit list. I really loved the sandwiches at Flour and I normally dislike sandwiches in general. It's a BLT sandwich with applewood smoked bacon. It's soooo good.
Tutto Italiano was on my husband's list. I passed on this one. I'm not a fan of this type of sandwich at all. But he says it's the best he's ever had.
Home grown tomatoes and some pesto. Delicious! I actually want some right now as I look at this.
The next night we had dinner at his aunt's place. We ordered clam chowder to go from Black Pearl. It is the best clam chowder and they also deliver. I might have to get some delivered to my parent's place when I go back for Thanksgiving.
The best clam chowder ever. Black Pearl.
His aunt's style is totally old school vintage grandma chic. 😂
Have a great Monday!
