Epic Fail Nike!

For a few years, I was on a Nike ban. I couldn’t stand behind a company that gave an endorsement deal to Michael Vick after it was discovered he ran a dog fighting ring. But serving some time, he seemed to have turned over a new leaf having done things like lobbying Congress to pass a bill that made it illegal for people to even spectate animal fighting events. He also created a foundation to help families with the funeral costs for those killed in the Virginia Tech mass shooting.

With that, I felt I could go back to buying Nike products. I still haven't forgiven him, but I do think he's trying to make up for what he's done.

The problem is, I would be buying more Nike products if their site actually worked. Specifically the Hello Kitty collaboration they have going on with their Converse label. This morning at 10am eastern time, Converse released a limited edition Hello Kitty capsule that is so cute, I was willing to break my shopping ban for.

When trying to check out, the website gave me an error and a phone number to call customer service to complete the purchase. Customer service was not able to help me complete the checkout. They were having the same problem themselves. When asked why this was happening, they said it was because I tried to check out too many times and my account was now locked up for 24 hours. Which didn't make sense because while I do have a Nike account, you can check out as a guest and that still didn't work. Then customer service said that it was limited to one shoe per household. My answer to that is, if that's the case they should have said so on the front page of the website! Even so I tried checking out with one pair and still no dice. I decided to try complaining on twitter and Nike responded that I clear out my cache and browsing history. I did that and still was getting error messages. I even asked my husband to try and check out for me. I even asked one of my co workers to try. I tried three different browsers. I tried to check out on my phone. All was futile.

My husband started saying that things were probably messed up on their infrastructure. He showed me how one time when trying to check out, his cart was on the converse site but then when he tried again, he was now on the Nike site. That’s fine except Converse has 3% Ebates and Nike’s site only offers 1.5% Ebates. He started to explain things about how a user is shifted can be shifted between servers and yada yada. All I know is that Nike doesn’t want you to buy their products.

Sigh. Thirteen hours later and I've completely given up trying to get these cute Hello Kitty sneakers. These are the three I am really interested in.

Aren't they adorable

As of right now my size is still available, but the more popular sizes are starting to sell out. I don't know how people are even able to check out at all. I think it's just luck and I am not lucky enough I guess. I'll give it another shot tomorrow morning, but sadly I think I won't be able to get my hands on these.

Hope everyone has a great weekend! TGIF and I'll be seeing Crazy Rich Asians this weekend with my husband. I'm a fan of the books and you know I gotta support the asians on the big screen. 😂

  2. Love the first pair! I’ve been in these types situations many times with various items. I sometimes wonder about my shopping obsession at those times. Sometimes you have to just let it go, easier said than done though!!! I’m actually really doing great not making purchases. It took a handful of failed attempts. It’s been two months and I’ve spent only $60. That for me is amazing. Feels great too. The pull to buy has lessened and I feel free-er!

    1. I've given up at this point! Decided Nike doesn't deserve my money. Congrats on your ban! May I ask why you're on a ban? Is it to save money or just to stop consuming? $60 is awesome for two months. I need to get to that point. So far I'm on day 17 and feels pretty good except for yesterday. They say it takes 21 days to form a habit right? =)

  4. Have you tried the LLL dance studio crops and the dance studio joggers?

    1. Dance Studio Joggers at 29" inseam would be way too long on me, so no. But I would be willing to try the Dance Studio Crop since it's only 25" but those will fit me like regular pants at the ankle. However looking at the fit, it looks pretty baggy in the hips and thigh, so not sure it would be at all flattering, most likely not. But if you're really interested I would be willing to order a pair for a review.

    2. I was thinking the same thing. I wish they made the joggers in a crop version so we can wear them like pants. I was also thinking they might look ok bunched up at the ankles since there's a cuff. But it might be too much material. Maybe the 29" inseam is for the larger sizes?? and the 2 might be shorter??? I wonder if joggers can be hemmed???? As for the crops, I was a big fan of the original studio crops. Wish they didn't change it. Yes, my thoughts exactly. Looks baggy . If it doesn't look great even on the model, there's not much hope for me. I have the north face aphrodite crops and pants which are a good dupe of the original LLL studio crops and pants. I took the pants to a seamstress who did a "yoga" pant hemming without having to eliminate the drawstring on the bottom. I can imagine that can be done for the LLL studio pants too.

    3. I have a couple of joggers from Werkshop that I bought last year that actually look and fit like joggers. I also have a couple of pairs from Athleta girls that fit perfectly. You might want to try and check those out!

We tried HelloFresh for the past two months - Here's our review

Hi everyone! This post is written by my husband. Some of you may know he does all the cooking around here. 😅 We noticed we were spending a lot of money on food and eating out every month and wanted to see if a meal kit service would save us money and time. After looking at a few meal kit services we settled on HelloFresh. Without further ado, here's Jared's review. (Original post date Aug 2022). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ As you may have seen from Leslie's Instagram stories for the past 2 months, we've been using HelloFresh for most of our meals. The main drivers for this were to better track what we eat and because on the advice of my doctor, I should be eating more home cooked meals. Before I go any further, it should be noted that my original career path was in culinary arts, but twists and turns in life changed that. So I do have formal cooking experience. A little background story. Over the years, I've developed
