Review! Scuba Hoodie III VS Scuba Hoodie IV

My collection of hoodies has grown significantly since I started buying Lululemon.  I've got about eight hoodies in total.  My favorite is the Scuba Hoodie III in the heathered colors.  My all time favorite hoodie is my heathered bark berry which is now extremely sought after and hard to find.  Recently I was contacted by someone who was looking for this Scuba in my size and asked if they could purchase it from me.  Looking on eBay I found they cost on average $200-$300 brand new with tags.  Insane.

I never liked Scuba Hoodie II because I found it too restrictive and stiff.  I prefer more relaxed clothing.  Scuba Hoodie III was perfect for me.  So when Lululemon released version IV, I was curious to see what was changed.

For reference I usually take a size 2 in Scuba Hoodies.  Sometimes if it's a printed Scuba the cut is too tight across my back.  For heathered versions I'm always a size 2.

The first thing I noticed is the new version feels slightly roomier and thinner.  It doesn't feel as snug or as cozy.  I have an inkling it's because of the inside lining.  I'll have photos of that further into my review.

The hoodie is still super comfortable.  I do not have any complaints about the fit.  They did change the seams on the hoods however.  They used to be a single line down the middle of the hood, now it's two lines down the sides plus a middle seam.

The cut is almost identical.  The below photo shows the new version to be slightly smaller, but I really could not feel the difference.

The zipper is also new.  Functionality wise, the new zipper feels good and works fine.  I can't really say I prefer either one to be honest.  Although if they released more Scuba Hoodies with the rose gold zipper, I would be all over that.

Here is a close up of the front of the hoodie.  The first thing I did noticed is the seams.  I thought Lululemon was pretty ingenious for incorporating their logo into the hoodie.  But here, they've changed it drastically where the new seams from the pocket to the neck looks like a fake imitation of their logo.  Why would they do this?  This bothers me SOOOOO much.

Below is my Scuba Hoodie III and you can see the logo is clearly.  The new version just looks like a bad knock off.  Why, Lululemon?  WHYYYYY?  The pocket is also on a slant because of this change and I would think it isn't as deep of a pocket.

I don't know why it bothers me so much, but it does.  I just don't like how the seam goes straight up to the neckline.  You can only really notice this change if you zip the hoodie all the way up.  If you don't and leave it zipper to your chest the collar will lay open and no one could tell.

Ok, moving on.  The back of the hoodie is slightly changed.  They removed the middle seam on the upper back.  The hood now has two extra seams on the sides instead of one seam straight up the middle.  The ribbing on the sides of the hoodie covers a bigger space, narrowing the back a bit.

I don't mind the changes to the back of the hoodie.  It's completely fine.  I think the back of the hoodie looks great.

The inside of the hoodie is less fleecy and this may be why it feels thinner.  It's more cottony smooth on the side left panel shown below.

Overall, I do not really mind the changes.  It just bugs me they completely redid the front design and messed with the logo.  I also wish they would have added something new to the embroidery logo on the hood, but nope, it's the same.  It just doesn't seem to be worth the $118 plus tax price tag.  I think from now on, if I did need another hoodie for some crazy reason, it would have to be special.  This new version looks like something you can easily get at another department store for less money.  Lululemon really has to step something up if they want me to spend my money on another Scuba.  A nice rose gold zipper would do the trick, or a special embroidery on the hood logo.  Something has to be different.

What are your thoughts on the new updated Scuba?  Would love to hear!

  1. This scuba IV is just blah! I agree that it's nothing special, and not worth the price tag. Does the scuba III have a similar neck opening? I thnk the funnel neck opening kinda overwhelms your petite frame!

    1. Yes the Scuba III has the same funnel neck opening. I don't really mind that so much though. I don't usually wear it zipped all the way up.

    2. I have 4 Scuba II and love them because of their heavyweight quality. Never got a III as I didn't like that they were looser fitted. Guess I can give the iv a miss as well! On another note, do you have an opinion on the "new" define? I heard they messed with the zipper.

    3. The zipper on the Define is the same zipper pull as the Scuba IV hoodie. I don't really mind it as long as it works well. I am tempted to order the Define in nocturnal teal since I'm returning the Scuba Hoodie. Did they change anything else on the Define besides the zipper pull?

    4. I hope not! The nocturnal teal is lush 😉

  2. IV looks great on you, but agreed the updated front design sucks. I have the heathered bark berry III too & strangers still stop to ask if that's a new colour!

  3. Thanks for your detail review!! I knew there's something different but couldnt tell what it was. I wish they have special zippers on it. One of my scuba has rainbow colors on it and i really love it :)
If it comes with any special zipper, lulu will take my money right away!!

    1. I know that Lulu will probably come out with another hoodie that I will love. I'm also a big fan of their On the Daily Hoodie. I have maybe 3 or 4 of those. I think I had that Scuba with the rainbow zipper. I sold it because it was too tight across my back.

  4. Are you going to post a review on the yogi racerback iv?

  5. Yes! I'll have that up this week. =)

  6. The store told me the Scuba IV has less of a pilling problem then the Scuba III.

    1. That's good to know! But I don't recall ever having a pilling problem with any of my Scuba IIIs tho.

  7. Hi sorry I know this post is some time ago, but I'm looking to get my first scuba hoodie. Is there a difference in fit for solid color, heathered and printed scuba? I was hoping to score a scuba iii from the WMTM but it seems like it's not happening and lululemon is phasing out the iii :'(

    1. For Scuba III, the heathered ones are always the better fit. They are softer and more roomy (less stiff). The printed ones I find are usually too tight in the armpit and across the back. I can wear them but it's not the most comfortable. I usually stick to the heathered colors myself. The solid ones are similar to the heathered colors but not as soft, but it's very close in terms of fit. Hope that helps! If you have more questions let me know.

    2. Thank you! Do any of your scubas fade? I see a lot of reviews on the website saying that the Black fades terribly!

    3. I personally haven't had that issue, but I do not own a black Scuba though. All of the ones I have are holding up nicely.

    1. Hi Cindy, I'm 4 feet 11 inches and I'm a size 5 or 5.5 in shoes.

    2. How much do you weigh if you don’t mind me asking. I’m only 4’10 I think. You’re so lucky you’re a 5 or 5.5 in shoes. I’m usually a 4 or 4.5 so I’m usually wearing shoes that are too big for me ie a size 5. If I’m lucky it’ll be a small fitting 5. However I’m used to it. When I do wear a 4 I find they make my feet freakishly small looking. How is it that you fit full length lulu tights? Or the Werkshop ones? I find the swiftly ts show too much of my spare tire in size 2 but if I size up the neckline is loose

  9. May I ask how much you weigh? Also, how do you manage to fit the length of the lulu pants? For example the high times.

    1. I weigh around 100 pounds. My inseam is 26.5 inches so the High Times fit me like regular length. High Times inseam is 26 inches.

  10. Thanks for replying. I think we have similar body types. When I look at your photos , that's how clothing fits on me too, but you're an inch taller than me which proves my theory, that no one is shorter than me :( Have you ever tried the 105 singlet? The skinny part of the racer back is too long on me so it buckles out. I have such a short torso. The train times crops is a steal at $39 on the cdn site now but only sz2 left which is my normal bottom size but reviewers complain they fit too small. What do you think? if it's my normal size should i risk it? Final sale

    1. I did try the 105 singlet a long time ago and it didn't work for me. The Essential Tank is the one I really like, I get it in a size 2. I have them in 4 colors. I love the Train Times Crop and I have a pair but I fit the size 4 which is the same size as all my other Lulu bottoms. You may be okay, my hips are 34-35 inches and my waist is around 26 and I fit the 4 perfect.

  11. What's the difference between scuba crew and scuba hoodie besides the obvious? How's the overall fit, comfort, thickness etc. Whcih would you recommend?

    1. Hi there, I'm sorry but I never tried the Scuba Crew because I will always prefer a zip up over a pullover every time. I tend to run hot, so prefer to be able to just take the hoodie off easily. The Scuba crew or any pullover for that matter messes with my hair, my glasses, make up, etc.

We tried HelloFresh for the past two months - Here's our review

Hi everyone! This post is written by my husband. Some of you may know he does all the cooking around here. 😅 We noticed we were spending a lot of money on food and eating out every month and wanted to see if a meal kit service would save us money and time. After looking at a few meal kit services we settled on HelloFresh. Without further ado, here's Jared's review. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ As you may have seen from Leslie's Instagram stories for the past 2 months, we've been using HelloFresh for most of our meals. The main drivers for this were to better track what we eat and because on the advice of my doctor, I should be eating more home cooked meals. Before I go any further, it should be noted that my original career path was in culinary arts, but twists and turns in life changed that. So I do have formal cooking experience. A little background story. Over the years, I've developed a love/hate relationship with c
